Mrs. Yuvondra Jackson

JACKSON, Mrs. Yuvondra - Yuvondra “Bonnie” Jackson, 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 13, 2023 at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Yuvondra Pearson, known to her family and close friends as Bonnie, was born on June 13, 1941 to Thomas and Carrie Pearson in Melvin, Alabama. She was the oldest of their three children. Bonnie graduated from Melvin High School and then, at the age of 18, moved to Flint, Michigan, where she attended Flint Junior College (now Mott Community College). Bonnie married Donald Jackson on October 15, 1960 and they went on to have three amazing sons, who were the pride of her life. Prior to her well-deserved retirement, Bonnie spent her career as a special education teacher’s aide, mostly at Stewart Elementary School in Flint, Michigan. Bonnie was a faithful member of Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church, a long-time member of its steward board, a missionary, and an avid Bible reader. Bonnie loved to be with her family and take vacations with her sister and nieces. She enjoyed being an active member of the Red Hat Society. Bonnie was a woman of great grace and style, and a wonderful cook. She was particularly celebrated for dishes such as her baked macaroni and cheese and giblet gravy. Her never-wavering source of love and strength to her family and community will be greatly missed. She is survived by her sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren: her son, Dr. Michael (Ariane) Jackson of Des Moines, Iowa, their children, Anissa (James) Brown and Mychal; her son, Terrance (Veronica) Jackson of Columbia, Maryland, their two children, Chelsea and Christopher; and her granddaughter, Tiffany N. Robinson. She also leaves behind her sister, Barbara Pearson-Brown of Flint, MI, two great grandchildren, a host of cherished nieces, nephews and cousins, extended family, and many life-long friends. Bonnie was proceeded in death by her husband, Donald Jackson, her son, Gregory Jackson, her parents, Thomas and Carrie (Napier) Pearson, and brother Thomas (Newt) Pearson Jr. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Quinn Chapel AME Church, 2101 Lippincott Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Jackson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday, with family present from 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends.
