Willie Fant

FANT, Mr. Willie – Age 83, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2009 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10AM Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11AM. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Saturday. Mr. Fant will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1-8PM Friday. Mr. Willie Bee Fant was born July 17, 1926 in Macon, Mississippi, the son of Nelson and Peach Lee (Stinson) Fant. Willie came to Flint in 1954 and soon became an active member of Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle, where he sang in the choir. He was a hard worker usually working multiple jobs. Willie was a beautician as well as a factory worker during his first few years in Flint, retiring from Chevrolet Motors Corporations after more than 38 years. His hobbies included bowling and golfing. Willie was a compassionate man, never hesitating to help someone in need. He loved helping kids to become successful adults, starting by becoming a Big Brother. Willie’s desire to help extended to not only his own children, but the children of friends and relatives as well. He was always ready to help and mentor by offering advice, assistance both financial and physical and moral support. It was these qualities that made him loved and respected by many, which are also the same qualities that will be missed the most. He leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Decosia V. Fant of Flint; son, Kendrick (Tonya) Fant of Bloomington, IL; daughters, Virginia Scott of Columbus, MS and Trina R. Mengesha (Flippen) of Clarkston, MI; stepchildren, Edward L. Adkins of Seattle, WA and Kim Carter (Adkins) of Lansing, MI; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Nelson Fant, Sr. of Flint; 5 sisters-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mr. Fant was preceded in death by his daughter, Monica L. Fant; 1 grandson; 1 great-granddaughter; parents, Nelson and Peach Lee (Stinson) Fant; 4 sisters; and 2 brothers.
