SIMPSON, Mr. William David - age 83, passed away, Sunday, February 25, 2024 at his residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle, 930 E. Myrtle Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Stephen Murphy, officiating Pastor Oscar Hare, Eulogist. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mr. Simpson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. William David “Bill” Simpson age 83, was born on June 1, 1940 in Flint, Michigan. He was the second of five children born to Richard Sr. and Addie Mae Simpson. David transitioned peacefully at his residence with family on February 25, 2024. David received his education at Flint Northern High School. He served in the US Air Force where he was Honorably Discharged in 1958. He later became a member of the United Auto Workers Union and retired from General Motors with over 38 years of service with AC Spark Plug Division. David lived a life fully devoted to the Lord. He learned to play the piano at an early age. David was baptized at an early age and became a member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church in Flint where he was a member for over 30 years. During this time, he sang and played with the Blue Bells, a group founded by his mother, later playing with the Four Bells. His passion for music led him to share his gift with numerous choirs and churches throughout his life’s journey. David was a member of the Wilson Ensemble group. He was a member and minister of music at the First Union Baptist Church, Golden Leaf (Promise Tabernacle), and The Cross Missionary Baptist Church. He dedicated his life to his ministry until his illness. David also enjoyed playwriting which included: Old Ship of Zion, Mighty Acts of God and Prodigal Sons all performed at local churches in the Flint area. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed taking fishing trips with his boat, and was a craftsman. It goes without saying as one of Addie’s kids, David would welcome anyone to sit down and “get this whooping” in a hand of dominoes. He enjoyed spending time with his sister and friend Phyllis singing at local nursing homes. David was a lifelong resident of Flint, MI until he and his wife, Rosetta Simpson, recently retiring in 2021 to her hometown in Tylertown, MS. David and his dedicated wife, Rosetta Simpson, were united in Holy Matrimony for 53 years. To this union, three children were born. William David “Bill” Simpson leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Rosetta; three children, Rhonda (Woody) Greene of Canton, GA, David Simpson of Hampton, VA, and Kennard Simpson of Mt. Morris, MI; grandchildren, Phalen and Nygel Greene both of Kansas City, MO, who affectionately called him “Pappy”; special God-daughter, Natasha (Damon) Friday of Southfield, MI; sister, Cherry Brown of Flint, MI; in-laws, Ophelia Simpson and Pam Simpson of Flint, MI; Mississippi in-laws, Eddie Jones, Beulah (Jerome) McInnis, Isiah (Meyosha) Jones, Lorraine Jones, Priscilla (Wallace) Bridges, Vivian Jackson, Melvin (Greta) Jones, Angela Jones, all of Tylertown, MS; and a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, and cousins and special friends. David was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Sr. and Addie Mae Simpson; siblings, Richard Simpson, Jr., Dianne Keyes, and Henry Simpson; niece, Stephanie Simpson; in-laws, Charles Brown, Jacob and Truvlin Jones and Willie Jones.
