POUNDS, Mr. Vincent L., Sr. - Age 60, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2011. Family hour 10 a.m. Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1083 E. Stewart Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Lewis Randolph officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Thursday. Mr. Pounds will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Vincent LaVon Pounds, Sr. was born May 14, 1951 in Flint, Michigan, the son of James and Beulah Pounds. Vincent accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. He was employed by General Motors Grand Blanc for 17 years before retiring and was a member of UAW Local 1292. For the past six years, Mr. Pounds volunteered with Safe Passage RSVP and was stationed at Carpenter Road Elementary School as a Crossing Guard; many of the Carpenter Rd. students referred to him as “granddad”, they knew he would be there to get them safely to school every morning and would come back in the afternoon to see them home safely. He loved to walk at Bluebell Beach every morning; spending time with nature and talking to the Park Rangers, as well as other morning hikers. Vincent enjoyed having a backyard garden and sitting in his backyard, but most of all spending time with his family really filled his heart. Mr. Vincent L. Pounds, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory: wife of 29 years, Angela; they were together 32 years; daughter, Tannette Stewart of Detroit, MI; sons, Tyrone C. (Michelle) Babbitt, Vincent L. Pounds, Jr., Rocrickius (Mindy) Gibbs and Tarrel L. Pounds, Sr.; special son, Karim Gibbs; 13 grandchildren, DeAngela, Arthur “Red”, JaCourtney, Aaliyah, Karmariya, Tarrel, Jr., Aireyon, Rocrickius, Jr., Isaiah, Trevone, Gabrielle, Vincent L. III and Izek; brother, Thomas Pounds; 3 sisters, Janie Pounds, Mary Pounds and Brenda Fay Williams, all of Flint; 2 sisters-in-law, Danette Itson of Killeen, TX and Jacqueline Babbitt of Flint; brother-in-law, Alex Babbitt of Jackson, MS; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins including special cousin, Phillip Mobley; many, many friends including special friend, Tommie “Hondo” Harden and family, Safe Passage RSVP and the staff and students of Carpenter Road Elementary School. Mr. Pounds was preceded in death by parents, James and Beulah Pounds; sisters; Vesta Pounds and Emily S. Pounds-Holbrook; brother, Jimmy A. Pounds; nephew, Dondrick A. Pounds; father and mother-in-law, Clifton and Millie Babbitt; sisters-in-law, Shirley and Joann Babbitt.
