Mrs. Vera Wilson

WILSON, Mrs. Vera - Age 87, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2016 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle, 930 E. Myrtle Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Rev. Dr. Herbert Miller II, officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd., Burton, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Saturday. Mrs. Wilson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. Friday. Mrs. Vera Wilson was born August 19, 1929 in Birmingham, Alabama, the daughter of George W. and Daisy (Baidy) Latham. She was a resident of Flint, Michigan and has been a member of Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle since 1954. She was former President of the Senior Choir, active in the Mission Ministry, Sunday School, Security Ministry, and Kitchen Ministry. She was known as “The Cake Lady.” Vera loved bowling, had a green thumb for gardening and was a great cook. She volunteered at the North End Soup Kitchen, and past member of the Flint Neighborhood Improvement Project, Inc. (NIPP). Vera met her husband, Foster Wilson, Jr. in 1958. It was love at first sight. They were united in Holy Matrimony on May 29, 1958 and remained until Foster’s death in 2003. Mrs. Vera Wilson leaves to cherish her memory: 2 daughters, Sabrina (Ken) Marsh of Houston, TX and Valerie Washington of Pittsburgh, PA; a very special niece, Andria S. Latham of Flint; 3 grandchildren, Jetaime (Jon) Walker of Houston, TX, Jade Kristin Washington of Harrisburg, PA and Brandon Craig Washington of Lompoc, CA; sister, Mildred Brown of Flint; 14 nieces; 8 nephews; 2 sisters-in-law, Helen (James) Jackson and June Wilson; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Bettina Campbell, Lessie and John Rhymes, Doris Viverette, Claudia Brandon, Wanda Harrison, Anita Harris, Bessie Batson, Mary Coleman, Tonedia Threlkeld and Rochelle Threlkeld. Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her husband, Foster Wilson, Jr.; son, Craig Allen Wilson; parents, George W. and Daisy Latham; 3 sisters, Dorothy and Ethel Latham and Barbara Mauldin; 2 brothers, George W. Latham, Jr. and James H. Latham; sister-in-law, Juanita Bell; brothers-in-law, Leroy (Orian) Wilson, Sylvester Wilson and William Wilson. The family would like to express special thanks to the Heartland Hospice staff for the care and kindness shown to our mother and to our family.
