Mrs. Vancie Lucille McCain

MCCAIN, Mrs. Vancie Lucille - Age 88, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at her residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2016 at Christ The King Church, 1811 Seymour Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Father Phillip Schmitter officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Bedford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Monday. Mrs. McCain will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. Vancie Lucille McCain was the 3rd children born to Ephraim and Clara White on February 8, 1928 in Charlotte, NC. Vancie graduated from Second Ward High School in Charlotte, Class of 1945. After graduating high school, she attended West Virginia State College, which is now known as West Virginia State University, where she played on the Women’s Basketball team. Vancie later attended Good Samaritan School of Nursing. On March 22, 1948 she married her elementary school sweetheart, Mr. Herman A. McCain. On that same date in 2016, the Lord saw fit for Vancie and Herman to once again be reunited. Vancie relocated to Flint in 1955. She was a long time dedicated member of Christ the King Catholic Church where she was a member of the National Council of Catholic Women, KPCLA Father Dukette Court #90, and CTK Choir. Vancie worked at Hurley Medical Center for 37 years retiring in 1990 as an Operating Room Technician,. While working full time, Vancie made it a priority to help students of her community by volunteering her time as a Flint Northwestern School Booster Club member. She loved praising the Lord, singing, dancing, going on casino trips, watching basketball, and most importantly spending time with her family. You could always count on Vancie to be there to support her children and grandchildren and to definitely “tell you like it is”! Mrs. Vancie Lucille McCain leaves to cherish her memory: 7children, Herman “Freddie” (Margo) McCain of Savannah, GA, Theresa “Vania” (Dr. Darnell) Cole of Plant City, FL, Gregory “Ray” (Keiko) McCain of Clemmons, NC, Joyce and Thaddeus McCain both of Flint, Michael (Sheila) McCain of Lincoln Park, MI, Mary “Bernadette” (Anthony) Rouser of Charlotte, NC; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special cousin/sister JoAnn (Charles) Antrum; special son-in-law, Norphlet Reeves, Jr. and faithful caregiver, Eboni Nelson. Mrs. McCain was preceded in death by her husband, Herman A. McCain; parents, Ephraim and Clara White; granddaughter, Theresa D. Cole; grandson, Yuki McCain; brothers, Ephraim and Robert White; niece, Pamela Moore; and special daughter, Cheryl Reeves.
