Mr. Shawn Maurice Hairston

HAIRSTON, Mr. Shawn Maurice - Age 59, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at his residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, December 23, 2023, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Larry Williams, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:00 AM Saturday. Mr. Hairston will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Mr. Shawn Maurice Hairston was born June 25, 1964 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Naomi Hairston and Lavelle Carpenter. Shawn attended Flint Public Schools and graduated from Flint Northwestern High School. He had some college experience as he attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI. Shawn was a jack-of-all-trades, from being a manager at Big John’s, starting his own lawn care business with one push lawn mower, to assembly line worker-machine operator for General Motors Corporation. He was also a pharmaceutical delivery driver to being a courier for independent contractors. Shawn’s current job was working for The Hills of Lone Pine and Land Bank Lawn Care, both he enjoyed so much. He also owned and operated his own lawn care service on the side. Shawn enjoyed mentoring the youth in Flint, as well as Pontiac, MI as he was a part of the Take One Community Program. Shawn was a member of Abundant Life of Faith Church Of God In Christ where he served as a Deacon under Pastor Larry Williams for some time. He enjoyed Sunday Night football, vacations and family time. Shawn was a loving, compassionate, loyal, family oriented, funny, respectful, dependable guy– full of integrity and ambition. He had a way of turning bad situations into beautiful memories. He was a jokester and just a very humble man, who also loved to talk about politics and what was going on in the community. Mr. Shawn Maurice Hairston leaves to cherish his memory: loving wife of 12 years, Toni Johnson-Hairston; 3 sons, J’Quan (Uniqua) Malone, Maurice Malone and Frank Hogg; 3 daughters, Brieon Jones, Brentni (Antoine) Gamble and Kendra Hogg; 12 grandchildren; sister, Twiana Harris of St. Petersburg, FL; 2 brothers, Kendrick Hairston of Flint and Brian “Blue” (Victoria) Brown; mother-in-law, Frankie Jack; 5 brothers-in-law; 4 sisters-in-law; 2 aunts, Geneva Davis of Flint and Lottie Hairston of Mt. Airy, NC; god-son, Rashamere Holmes whom he loved so much; god-parents, Pastor Larry and Buna Williams; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special family and friends, Lottie Fields, Tracy Orr, and Kathy Graham, State Representative, Tim Melton, Yohannes Bolds, Scottie Mays, Rasheen Brown, Sam Scott, Bill Maxey, Larry Wilson, Rodale Randolph, Myron Edwards, Dwight Motley, Jerry Mickowski and Marcus Brown. Mr. Hairston was preceded in death by his mother, Ms. Naomi Hairston; grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Charlie and Nora Hairston; 2 brothers, Bradley and Keith Hairston; father-in-law, Essie Johnson. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Larry and Buna Williams, Matt Grant and The Hills of Lone Pine, Yohannes Bolds CEO & Founder of Take One Community Program, Minister James and Maxine Powell for the roles each has played in the life of Shawn Hairston.
