BAKER, Mr. Saundrell Lee - Age 68, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2016 at Foss Ave. Baptist Church, 1159 E. Foss Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Dr. Reginald G. Flynn Host Pastor, Rev. Antoine Shyne officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Association, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 a.m. Monday. Mr. Baker will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Saundrell Lee “Sam” Baker was born July 25, 1947 in Muskegon, Michigan the son of Dottie M. Johnson and the late Andrew Baker. He attended Flint Community Schools, graduating from Flint Central High School, Class of ‘65. Sam was on the track team and excelled at Pole Vaulting. Sam was a member of Dozier Memorial CME Church, where he served as a Trustee and Usher. He was a long time Grand Blanc resident. Sam was employed with General Motors Truck & Bus, retiring in 2004 after 38 years of dedicated service. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed solving Saduko puzzles but he was a grill master. Sam specialized in anything that would fit on a grill. He was a fan of basketball and football. Sam was a die hard Michigan State Spartan. He always began his days studying Bible scriptures. Sam loved to stay informed on current events, catching the news on TV and reading the news paper. He was a devoted husband and a loving family man. Mr. Saundrell Lee “Sam” Baker leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Raye of Grand Blanc, MI; 3 daughters, Saundranette Baker of Snellville, GA, Sheila (Mario) Smith of Atlanta, GA, Shemicka Perry of Grand Blanc, MI; 2 sons, Ronald (LaShawn) Deloney and Ramon Johnson both of Flint; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; mother, Dottie M. Johnson of Flint; step-mother, Blanche Baker of Saginaw, MI; 3 sisters, Lettie Baker and Karen Hairston both of Flint and Deborah Brown of Saginaw, MI; 3 brothers, Wallace Baker of Magnolia, AR, Johnnie Baker of Davison, MI and Dennis (Antoinette) Baker of Flint; 3 aunts, Jewel Burris of Dallas, TX, Rena Moore and Velma Williams both of Saginaw, MI; sisters-in-law, Frances Mabry, Janice Siplin, Michaele Nelson all of Flint, Delorie Porter of Midland, MI, Robin (Clyde) Thompson of Falls Church, VA; brother-in-law, Robert Deloney of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends Al Deloney, Kenny Simmons, Victor Kimsey, Andre Mabry and Robert Shyne. Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Baker; step-father, Glen Johnson; and sister, Lottie Baker. The family would like to express special thanks to his niece, Monique Ruffin.
