HILL, Mrs. Sammie Earl - Age 69, passed away, Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Brian's House. Family hour 10AM Friday, October 16, 2009 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1083 E. Stewart Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11AM, Pastor Lewis Randolph officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Friday. Mrs. Hill will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Thursday. Mrs. Sammie Earl (Silas) Hill was born on Sunday, September 22, 1940 in Jackson, Mississippi to the parents of Sam and Reba Silas. Sammie was one of five children born to this union. Mrs. Hill accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She was baptized and joined St. Matthew Baptist Church in Jackson, MS, where she remained a faithful member until she relocated to Flint, MI. Sammie graduated from Lanier High School in Jackson, MS in 1959. She married Willie J. Hill on July 9, 1959 and to this union five children were born. Sammie and Willie relocated to Flint, MI in 1959, where they united with the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Dr. L.W. Pryor. Sammie remained a very faithful member until her health started to decline. She was a member of the Nurses Guild for many, many years. Mrs. Hill was employed with the Flint Board of Education at Northwestern High School, retiring in 2001. Her hobbies were cooking, reading the paper, listening to Motown music, traveling, and shopping. She loved spending time with her family and hosted family dinners often at her home. Mrs. Sammie Earl Hill leaves to cherish her memories: loving and devoted husband of 50 years, Rev. Willie Hill; 5 children, Rev. Otha Hill, Chandra Yates, Rev. Jerry Hill, all of Flint, Steven (Paulina) Hill of Goose Creek, SC and Janice Hill of South Elgin, IL; 5 grandchildren, Channetta, DeAntoine, both of Flint, Kenya, Steven Jr., and Latoya, all of Goose Creek, SC; great-grandchild, Si’Nai of Flint, MI; brother, Charles (Elizabeth) Silas of Huber Heights, OH; God-sister, Carolyn Marshall; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, many cousins and dear and caring friends. Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by parents, Sam and Reba Silas; three brothers, Willie Silas, Donald Silas and Durwood Silas, Sr.; and dear friend, Mrs. Jane Randolph. The family would like to express special thanks to Brian’s House Hospice, Pastor Lewis Randolph and the Antioch Baptist Church family, Dr. S. Dismond, Dr. E. Saeed, Kith Haven Nursing Home and Daryll Drive Street neighbors.
