BLASSINGAME, Mr. Rodney Allen Jr. - Age 37, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2025 at his residence. Public Visitation, No Formal Service, Friday, July 25, 2025, at Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd, Flint, Michigan. Mr. Blassingame, Jr. may be viewed 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM Friday, July 25, 2025. Mr. Rodney Allen Blassingame, Jr, age 37 transitioned unexpectedly on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at his residence. Mr. Rodney Blassingame, Jr, also affectionately known as "Pookie" or "Rod" was born on December 2, 1987 in Flint, MI to Rodney Blassingame, Sr. and Linda Hammons. Rodney had reserved demeanor and a heart of gold leading him to help people even at times when he was struggling himself. He always saw the good in people and would never turn his back on his circle, remaining loyal till the end. Rodney graduated from Flint Central High School in 2005. Rodney played basketball and was a great bowler in High School as well as in leagues around the Flint area. As a child he was a Chicago Bulls/Michael Jordan fan. He was self proclaimed King of Bar-B-Que and lived up to the name. He enjoyed cooking for his family and friends, especially during holidays and football season. Those who knew him knew he was a diehard Philadelphia Eagles fan. He loved to dress, go to Detroit to eat, spending time with his nephews, and playing video games with his son. He had recently started a program to acquire his CDL license at the 160 driving Academy. In 2010 Rodney formed a group with his friend NuG called "The Thieves" and in 2011 they released an album called Happy Holidays Preview. Rodney would go on to continue to write lyrics, do features, as well as freestyle on radio stations in Detroit. Rodney would work hand-in-hand with Daddy Jimmie working on his rental houses and grew to be very handy. On September 14, 2013 his life changed forever when the love of his life was born, his son. Skoot. He was his everything and everyone knew that. They were inseparable and spent most of their time together or talking on the phone when they were away from one another. The bond that these two had was inspiring and beautiful to watch. Pookie was a treasure to us all and will be missed more than words can express!! Rodney leaves to cherish his memory: Son: Rodney "Skoot" Blassingame, III, Parents: Rodney (Cathy) Blassingame,; Grandmother: Mamie Owens; Sisters: LaWanda Blassingame, Dana Blassingame, Monica Sams (Ron Gillum) and Delicia Chaney; Brothers: LaRonn (Alonda) Blassingame, Kem Blassingame, Dale (Tiara) Blassingame, Jr, and Lyell Hodge, Uncles: Clayton Blassingame, Dale Blassingame, Sr., Willie Owens II, Larry Williams, Sr., and Milton (Darlene) Hodge; Aunts: Marcia Blassingame (Bonus Mom), Ruth Blassingame, Lynn Richmond, Mary Blassingame, Mary Hodge, and Deborah Owens; Nephews: William (Brittany) Sams, Jimmie Hodge, III, Isaiah Hodge, Travaris Watson, Tyree Watson, and Dionntae Mizell; Nieces; Morgan Sams (His Favorite Person), Charde McDaniel, Jon Monet Hodge, Raelyn and Storm Sams; Cousins: Diane Blassingame, Larry and Javaris Williams, Cabriel Stephen, Camille Jackson, and other relatives too numerous to name but are on our minds and in our hearts. Special friends that were like brothers to Rodney: Herman Byrd, Adrian Roberts, Keon Sauls, Vincent Ingram, Vernon & Jimmie Owens, Prentiss Owens, Courtney Hairston, Anthony Byron, and Kordero Pennyman. God-daughter: Jada Sauls. His prize bullies Pam & Oxi. Rodney was preceded in death by his Mother's: Linda Hammons and Marva (Blassingame) Hodge: Grandparents: Nokomis and Shirley Blassingame, Father: Jimmie Hodge, Sr,; Brother: Jimmie Hodge, Jr; Sister: Mary Chaney-Watson; Uncles: Gerald Blassingame, Tony (Victoria) Owens, and Leroy Blassingame, Quin (Brenda) Tyler, and Leotis Rochelle; Aunts: Deborah (Blassingame) Williams, Kristy and Teresa Owens, and Anita Henderson; Cousins: Tony Lance Owens.
