Mr. Richard Charles Franklin Herbert

HERBERT, Mr. Richard Charles Franklin - Age 27, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2019 at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, MI. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, July 5, 2019 at Saints of God Church, 2200 Forest Hill Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Alfred L. Harris Sr., officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Friday. Mr. Herbert will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Wednesday. Richard Charles Franklin Herbert, AKA “Richie Rich” was born to Patricia Roman Herbert and Richard Odess Herbert. While his mother was pregnant with him, Richard was getting procedures done prior to his birth, to save his life. On October 8th, 1991 at 10:35 AM, two months premature he was born weighing only 3lbs and 5 1/2 oz. His life was always filled with doctors visits, hospital stays, and lots of medication. However, he didn’t go through it alone, because his family was always there. Despite all the things he had to go through he always kept a smile on his face. Richard started school at Durant Tuuri Mott at the age of 2, where he would later graduate from. Despite the numerous hospital stays throughout his school years, Richard still graduated with his class in 2010. Richard enjoyed playing video games, collecting figurines, and writing comic book stories, which he always said that one day Stan Lee, creator of Marvel Comics would adapt into a film. Richard had over 27 operations in his short lifetime. The first was his first kidney transplant, given to him by his mother, when he was a mere 2 1/2 years old. The transplant lasted 11 years, until it failed and he was placed on dialysis, which was always hard on him physically, emotionally, and mentally. On October 19, 2010 he suffered a stroke at the age of 19 and his family was by his side until he was discharged. He then received another kidney that only lasted two years. Richard was growing tired of hospitals, doctors, medication and needles. April 9 2018 after having a dialysis treatment he suffered a heart attack and was declared deceased. However, God had a plan for him and after 11 minutes, EMS was able to get a heartbeat. He was in a coma and later a vegetative state where he stayed for 1 year and 2 months. On June 23, 2019 at 10:45 PM, God closed his eyes and there were no more doctors, nurses, medication, machines or I.Vs because he was finally pain free and at peace. Richard leaves to cherish his memory: parents, mother, Patricia Roman Herbert; father, Eld. Richard (Angela) Herbert; 2 sisters, LaShawndra (Laron Robertson) Herbert and Shakeisha Herbert, all of Flint; step-sister, Rashawnda Lewis; step-brother, William Jones; 3 nieces, LaNautica Knight, Ke’Niya Henderson-Herbert and Marzella Millender, all of Flint; 4 nephews, LeAndrey Duncan, Demetrius McGlown, Kenneth Millender, and Julius McGlown, all of Flint; aunts, Rita Wright of Arlington, TX, Marietta (Sharard) Alexander of Katy, TX, Karla Herbert of Flint, Dorothy (Thomas) Hargrove of North Carolina, Deborah Roberts, Dollene Roberts, both of Flint and Viola Pratt of Ypsilanti, MI; uncles, Larry (Patricia) Roman of New Jersey, Calvin Roman and Alfred Roman, both of Flint; great aunt, Viola (Merle) Pratt; great uncle, Jim Pratt both of Ypsilanti, MI and a host of other relatives and friends including special friend, Janue Mitchell. Richard was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Mary Gladys Roman and Ernestine Herbert; grandfather, Richard O. Herbert Sr.; uncle, Jimmy F. Roman; and many others.
