AVERY, Mr. Quentin Olen - Age 64, passed away Monday, October 6, 2008 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30AM Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at Family Worship Center International, G-3280 Linden Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11AM, Pastor Alfred L. Harris, Sr., officiating. Pastor Timothy Stokes Host Pastor. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Tuesday. Mr. Avery will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Monday. Mr. Quentin Olen Avery was born October 3, 1944 in Cooper, Texas, the son of Robert and Essie Avery. Quentin was a resident of Burton, MI. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High in Cooper, Texas and Lanley College in Oakland, CA, where he majored in appliance repair. Quentin also served in the United States Navy with several medals and commendations. He was employed by the Flint Board of Education as a Bus Driver, retiring in 2006 and was a member of SEIU Local 517M. Quentin enjoyed watching western movies and sports. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and had a great love for his family and friends. Mr. Quentin Olen Avery leaves to cherish his memory: loving wife and friend, Sandra Lee Avery of Burton, MI; 5 daughters, Resa, Lisa both of Boston, MA, Treva, Tonya both of Oakland, CA and Tina (Terri) Harden of Flint; 2 sons, Vincent of Dallas, TX and Danny of Burton, MI; god-daughter, Kizzy Harrington of Flint; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 5 sisters, Ellen Freeman of Wichita Falls, TX, Nell Carter of Stockton, CA, Joyce Robinson of Dallas, TX, Catherine Coleman of Las Vegas, NV and Mary Johnson of TX; 2 brothers, Jame (Mert) Avery of Flint and Lindell Avery of TX; many nieces including special nieces, Vanessa Powell and Billie (Elliott) Williams; many nephews including, special nephew, Billy (Jill) Powell; many cousins; sister-in-law, Louise (LeRoy) Lever of Grand Blanc; 5 brothers-in-law, Sam Bell, Kevin (Kim) Bell all of Flint, Sam (Val) Bell of Ellenwood, CA, Charlie (Margaretta) Bell of Stone Mountain, GA, Joe (Shirley) Bell of Bristol, TN; a host of cousins other relatives and friends including special friends, Jessie (Kathy) Blair, Ben (Brenda) Marshall, Danielle Bibbs, Gary (Brenda) Greene, Barbara and Tracey Fountain, Shelia Galloway, Marvin (Pam) Cook, Diane McKeown, Roy (Teri) Chambry, Sharon Wilson, Vernon Allen, Lonnie Coney, Derrick Higgins and the SEIU family. Mr. Avery was preceded in death by his grandchild; parents; brother; sister; mother and father-in-law.
