MATTHEWS, Mr. Phillip - Age 77, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at Kith Haven Nursing Home. Funeral service 11:00 AM Saturday, August 31, 2019 at King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church, 2220 W. Coldwater Rd., Pastor Jessie D. McIntosh, Host Pastor, Rev. Lugene Maxie, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:45 AM Saturday. Mr. Matthews will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1:00 PM-8:00 PM Friday with family present to receive friends from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM. Mr. Phillip Matthews was born March 28, 1942 in Daleville, Mississippi, the son of Fred and Mary Matthews. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Anderson on October 8, 2000 in Flint, Michigan. Phillip attended King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church where he proudly took care of the snow removal and was willing to do anything requested. He was a employed at Grand Blanc Metal Center, a division of General Motors Corporation where he retired after 30 years of service in 1999. Phillip was a member of UAW Local #1292. He loved his family and enjoyed family gatherings, fish fry’s, barbecues and telling fond stories. Phillip had a great sense of humor an was the “MOST” generous person one could meet. Mr. Phillip Matthews was a devoted, loving husband and father. He leaves to cherish his memory: loving wife, Dorothy Matthews of Flint; daughter, Brenda (Earnest) Edwards of Meridian, MS; son, Phillip Blackshear of Dallas, TX; 2 sisters, Barbara Barnes of Meridian, MS and Otha Matthews of Flint; 2 brothers, John (Lucy) Matthews of Brooklyn, NY and Lonnie (Sharon) Matthews of Flint; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; 3 sisters-in-law, Barbara J. Matthews of Meridian, MS, Phyllis Matthews of Moss Point, MS and Harriet (Firdie) Byrd of Little Rock, AR; brother-in-law, Ernest Anderson of Carson, CA; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Sylvester Tucker, Charlie Martin, Idell Matthews, Catherine McLilly and family. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Jessie D. McIntosh and the King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church family, McLaren-Flint doctors and nurses, Kith Haven Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center 1st Floor staff of caring for our beloved Phillip during his stay.
