Mr. Philander "Duce" Pippins

PIPPINS, Mr. Philander "Duce" - Age 67, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023 in Greensboro, N.C. Family hour 9:00 AM Friday, April 21, 2023 at Triumph North Star Campus, 1657 Broadway Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 10:00 AM. Interment Gracelawn Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 9:00 AM Friday. Mr. Pippins will lie in state in the chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Thursday, with the family present from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. Mr. Philander “Duce” Pippins was born September 24, 1955 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Frank and Ella Mae Pippins Philander grew up in Flint, Michigan, and was a proud graduate of Northwestern High School, Class of 1973. He began working for General Motors shortly after high school and retired on December 1, 2008. Mr. Pippins loved God and was a member of North Star Missionary Baptist Church, until he relocated to Greensboro, North Carolina with the love of his life, Lynda Young in 2012. While living in Greensboro, Duce attended Mount Zion Baptist Church. He wore many hats and had many hobbies in his lifetime but was most passionate about cooking. Philander enjoyed cooking so much that he became the proud owner and operator of “Flintstones Bones Catering Service.” Duce found happiness in bringing joy to others through his great conversation and his loud contagious laughter. He spent his life being a light and helper to everyone he encountered especially his family. Mr. Pippins leaves to cherish his memory: life partner, Lynda Young; children, Marcus Richmond, Deondrick Vaughn, Jason Jupree, Philana (Darien) Pippins-Coolin all of Flint, MI; step-daughter, Michele Young of Flint, MI; grandchildren, Kani (Keith) Young of Greensboro, NC, Deionna Vaughn, Makayli Coolin, Kendall Vaughn, Darien Coolin, II and Damien Coolin all of Flint, MI; sister, Wendy (Sam) Pippins-Simon; brothers, Perry (Marcia) Pippins of Chandler, AZ, Anthony (Deborah) Pippins of Flint, MI and Gary (Debra) Pippins of Phoenix, AZ; nieces, Sharita Pippins, Lakeeta Pippins, LaShawna Pippins all of Flint, MI, Andrea (Markeidus) Hall of Ypsilanti, MI, Natwana Toles of Dallas, TX, Tashana Pippins, Tiauna Pippins of Peoria, AZ and special niece, LaShonte (David) Pippins-Clanton; nephews, Torrey (Gina) Pippins of Houston, TX and Monquez Pippins of Dallas, TX; aunts, Mazie Murphy, Bertha Rawls, Catherine Martin, Vicky Rawls all of Flint, MI and Mary Johnson of Indianolo, MS; uncles, Thomas Rawls and Ricky Brown of Flint, MI; and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends including special cousins, Erik Rawls, Duke Rawls and Terrell Rawls all of Flint, MI; special friends, Willie Jenkins, Michael Harper, Kevin Ross and Daisy Roulhac. Mr. Pippins was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ella Mae Pippins; brother, Dewayne Pippins; nephews, Shavaunte’ Pippins, Tireo “Shawn” Hodo, Camonte’ Pippins and Perry T. Pippins; best friend, Keith Bryant.
