NOLEN, Mrs. Pearlie Virginia - Age 86, passed away, Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Regency of Grand Blanc in Grand Blanc, MI. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, October 3, 2020 from St. John Christian Church, 1525 S. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Derek Nolen, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:30 AM Saturday. Mrs. Nolen will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Mrs. Pearlie Virginia Nolen “Pearl” was born February 11, 1934 in Gaston, North Carolina, the daughter of Samuel and Fannie (Ashe) Powell. “Pearl” was reared in Gaston and attended Northampton County Schools. After moving to Flint, Michigan, Pearlie met, fell in love and married Floyd Nolen in 1953. To their union were born seven children, Floyd Jr., Kathy, Stephanie, Rita, Sonya, Derek and Kristen. They were marred 54 years. Mrs. Nolen was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed decorating her home, fishing, vacationing (especially cruises) and most of all spending time with her siblings, children and grandchildren. Mrs. Nolen’s Christian Walk began early in life at Gaston Baptist Church in Gaston, NC. After settling in Flint, she became a member of Vermont Christian Church for over 30 years where she was a faithful and active member serving in several capacities including the Choir and the Usher Board. In 2013, she joined St. John Christian Church under the leadership of her son, Elder Derek T. Nolen. Pearlie retired from AC Spark Plug, a division of General Motors Corporation in 1991 after 18 years of dedicated service. Mrs. Pearlie Nolen, age 86, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 27, 2020. Mrs. Pearlie Virginia Nolen “Pearl” leaves to cherish her memory: 5 daughters, Kathy Nolen of Michigan, Stephanie (Kahl) Nantambu of Georgia, Rita (Wayne) Hughes and Sonya (Derick) Walls of Texas, Kristen (Charles) Winfield of Michigan; son, Derek (Tomara) Nolen of Michigan; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brother, Daniel C. Miles of Michigan; 2 sisters, Jacqueline Broadway of Michigan and Merlena Ferguson of California; sister-in-law, Helene Morrow of California; brother-in-law, Rev. Ira H. Jenkins of Michigan; a host of other relatives and friends including special cousins, Calvin Vincent and Patricia (Dale) Penn-Jacobs; special nephew, Roy (Leon) Powell; lifelong friends, Ella Twitty, Irene Wright, Marilynn Newsom and Mary Wilson; her “sixth daughter”, Shelly Bannister and “adopted daughter”, Marcy Ross. Mrs. Nolen was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Nolen Sr.; son, Floyd Nolen Jr.; grandson, Joshua Nolen; parents, Samuel Powell and Fannie Powell-Miles; sister, Dorothy Jenkins; daughter-in-law, Vasten Suane Nolen. The Nolen family would like to extend a special thanks to her grandson who cared for her, Kendall Walls, Ryan Garland and Bryson Patton, the St. John Christian Church and Vermont Christian Church families, Shelly Bannister and the Thompson family.
