SUTTLES, Mr. Orlando - Age 52, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2 p.m. Eld. Robert Allen officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Mr. Suttles will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 4-8 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers the family and friends of Mr. Suttles ask that donations be made to the Orlando Suttles Benefitfund.com or Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home. Mr. Orlando Suttles was born July 6, 1960 in Flint, Michigan the son of Eddie Suttles and Nettie Ruth Suttles. Orlando was a resident of Lansing, Michigan. He was a member of Holy Ghost Church Ministries in Flint, Michigan. Orlando graduated from Flint Northern High School and from Michigan State University with a degree in Psychology. He was employed by Michigan State University in Lansing, Michigan as an Instructor of MSU Color Guards. Orlando has instructed and choreographed color guards for several Michigan school bands including, Chesaning, Flushing, Linden and Farmington High Schools. He also enjoyed a career in the banking industry, as a customer relations and marketing specialist. Orlando held many positions such as: Guard Coordinator for the MSU Marching Band, Assistant Director of State of the Art Winter Guard, Adjudicator of movement for WGI (Winter Guard International), Mid-West Judge Guild Member, Michigan Color Guard Circuit and Visual Field Judge for the Michigan Competing Bands Association TSSMA. He was the only State of Michigan Judge in WGI. Under his direction along with Peter Eichler his assistant they have won 5 State Championships, 4 WGI Regional Championships, 1 WGI National Championship. Orlando didn’t have any children, but was a father figure to many. He was a kind, bighearted, passionate, loyal, caring, very creative and supportive man. Orlando also enjoyed cooking and spending time with friends. He always had a kind word and loving spirit. He leaves to cherish his memory: brother, Osley Suttles; niece, Marjorie Millender; 4 nephews, Vincent (Francis) Jerome, Harold, Stanley (Katrina) Millender, all of Flint; 16 great-niece and nephews; 2 great-great nieces; 1 great-great nephew; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends of 23 years, Ted Reuschel, MI, Clay Weiler, Peter Eichler, all of Lansing, MI, Doug Henderson of Dallas, TX, Charles Brown of Austin, TX, special God-mothers, Marilyn Mitchell, Teresa Allen and Naomi Harris, special God-father, Elder Robert Allen; other relatives including, Louise Bethany of South Bend, IN, Bertha c. Davis of Memphis, TN and the Holy Ghost Ministries Church family. Mr. Suttles was preceded in death by his father, Eddie Suttles; mother, Nettie Suttles; and sister, Gladys Millender. The family would like to express special thanks to Ted, Clay, Peter, Doug, and Charles, Sparrow Hospital 3rd floor CCU staff in Lansing, MI, the staff of Michigan State University, MSU Marching Band and Color Guards, Winter Guard Association and everyone far and near that expressed or showed acts of kindness during this time
