Mrs. Omar Levon (Harvey) Smith

(HARVEY) SMITH, Mrs. Omar Levon - Age 73, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016 at True Light Missionary Baptist Church, 6917 M.L. King Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Robert Rushing officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Association, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Family and friends will assemble at the church 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Smith will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. to receive friends. Omar was born October 18, 1942 in Hamtramck, Michigan from the union of Homer Harvey Sr. and Juanita Gregory Harvey. Omar accepted Christ at an early age. She graduated from Farragut Career Academy High School in Chicago, IL. She married Willie Smith Jr. on June 20, 1961 and from this union three children were born. As a resident of Flint for over 50 years, Omar held various positions within the Flint Community School system and retired after 40 years. Omar’s dedication to her children, family and friends was unwavering. She enjoyed nurturing her grandchildren, singing, baking, shopping and fellowshipping with her church family. Most of all she loved God, praising Him everywhere! Omar worshipped at True Light Missionary Baptist Church for 33 years where she sang in the choir and faithfully served on the Nursing Guild, Women’s Committee, Kitchen Committee, Missionary Board and filled the gap wherever she was called to duty. She especially loved teaching her Children’s Sunday School Class. Omar leaves in God's care: her mother Juanita Harvey, Detroit; her aunt Clara Sapp, St. Lucie, Florida; her three children: Aaron (Kellie) Smith, Rochester Hills; Tenee Smith, Tamara (Derrick) Chambers, Flint; and seven grandchildren: Brent Smith, Teara Smith, Wesley Green, Cole Smith, Omari Byron, Evan Green, and Wynter Byron. Omar also leaves to cherish her six surviving siblings: Homer (Judith) Harvey Jr., Detroit; Juanita Hagler, Richmond, California; Trina Harvey, Ta-Nikka Harvey, Tai-Kenya (Will) Dyer and Tee-Haun Harvey, all of Detroit. Also in God’s care are many other relatives and friends including the Gregory, Harvey, Sapp, Browder, Baker, Kinnerman and Smith families. Omar was preceded in death by her grandparents Eddie & Argie Harvey and John & Tennye Gregory; father, Homer Harvey Sr.; her eldest sister, Marjorie Harvey and her grandson Blake Smith.
