JOHNSON, Mr. Olen, Jr. - Age 63, passed away Monday, September 20, 2010 at Genesys Hospitial. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 27, 2010 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11 a.m., Dr. K.D. Yarber officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Monday. Mr Johnson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Olen Johnson, Jr. was born July 8, 1947 in Cornersville, Arkansas, the son of Olen and Ruben Johnson, Sr. Olen was affectionately known by “Pig” and “Black Velvet” by those who knew and loved him. He moved to Flint at an early age and was baptized at Saint Paul Baptist Church by Rev. R.R. Gordon. In the last years of his life he enjoyed attending Mount Hermon and New Zion Baptist Churches. He retired from Buick, a division of General Motors on April 1, 1996 with 25 years of service and was a member of UAW Local 599. Olen enjoyed fishing, barbecuing, traveling and spending time with family and friends. In “Black Velvet’s” early years of his life, he enjoyed riding his Harley. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Mr. Johnson will be truly missed by all. Mr. Olen Johnson, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: loving and devoted wife of 24 years, Mrs. Bonnie J. Johnson of Flint; daughter, Mishari Broadway; son, Nik-ki Hardman, both of Lauderdale Lakes, FL; grandchildren, KenD’re Hardman, Zoee Hardman and KyAire Hardman, all of Lauderdale Lakes, FL and Racheal Hardman of Muskegon, MI; 6 sisters, Loretta of Kansas City, MO, Norma of Detroit, MI, Catherine, Bertha, both of Flint, Valerie of Rochester, NY and Mary Ann of Flint; 2 brothers, Willie of New York and Philip of Flint; a host of nieces and nephews; 4 aunts, Velma Bailey of Flint, Marjorie Walton of Warren, AR, Louise Darrough of Wilma, AR and Ethel McLemore of Pine Bluff, AR; a host of cousins; mother-in-law, Sereatha Hardman; 4 sisters-in-law, Flora (Capus) Robinson, Shirley (Rev. Dr. K.D.) Yarber, all of Flint, Carolyn Conyers, Rosemary (Harvey) Green, all of Little Rock, AR; 4 brothers-in-law, LeAndrew (June) Hardman of Flint, Lester Norman of Detroit, MI, George White of Jacksonville, FL and Robert Jackson of Little Rock, AR. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; uncles; aunts; many other close relatives and friends. The family would like to express special thanks to Genesys Regional Medical Center Critical Care Unit, the Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church family, Dr. W.G. Terry and the New Zion Baptist Church family, Angel Yarber and everyone who was there for us in our time of need.
