JOHNSON, Mr. Ocie Jr. - Age 83, passed away at Hurley Medical Center, Friday, January 05, 2024. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Foss Avenue Baptist Church, 1159 E. Foss Avenue with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Brian Frelix, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mr. Johnson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday, with family present from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. Mr. Ocie Johnson Jr. was born December 13, 1940 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the son of Osie and Gertrude Johnson. Ocie graduated from Merrill High School, “Class of 1959” where he played football for the Merrill Tigers, then he attended University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff formally AM&N from 1960-1962. It was at Merrill that Ocie met his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Virginia Malcolm. To this union they became parents of 5 children, 1 son is deceased. He was baptized at 8th Avenue Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, AR under the leadership of Rev. L.K. Solomon. The Johnson family lived in Chicago, Illinois for a few years before moving to Flint, Michigan. During his years in Chicago, Ocie worked for Railway Express Agency for 6 years. After moving to Flint, He was employed by Chevrolet Metal Fabricating, a division of General Motors Corporation and remained there for 42 years. Ocie retired in the summer of 2008. It was a few decades ago the Ocie and Mary joined Foss Avenue Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Avery Aldridge and now under Pastor Brian Frelix. He was an active member of Foss Avenue Baptist Church, serving as a Trustee, on the Security Ministry and as an Usher. Ocie was also a member of the Mary Johnson Decorating Team. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing Solitaire, sitting in the sauna (garage) watching western’s and he hold’s the championship belt for Dominos. Mr. Ocie Johnson Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: 3 daughters, Donna (Raymond) L. Young, Kathy L. Johnson-Reed and Odette L. Johnson; son, Ocie Johnson III, all of Flint; grandchildren, Deonna (Dottie) Fields, David Jermaine Johnson, Gabrielle Johnson, Zhane Reed, Nina Simone and Ociea Reed; great-grandchildren, Dahnaven, Dalaysia, Elijah, Promise, Dyllan and Elara; 4 sisters, Vivian Williams of Milwaukee, WI, Jacqueline (Rev. Curley) Roberts of Virginia, Sandra (David) Talbot of Austin, TX and Brenda Ann Hayes of Milwaukee, WI; special cousin, (brother) Herbert Colen of Copperas Cove, TX; as well as a host of many relatives and loving friends. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Mary V. Johnson; son, David L. Johnson; parents, Osie and Gertrude Johnson; sisters, Gertie Davis, Maxine Jackson and Rubie Jasper; brothers, Jesse James Johnson and Jimmy L. Johnson; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Mable Topps Malcolm. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Brian C. Frelix and the Foss Avenue Baptist Church, lifelong friends, Vivian Miller, Robert Ferguson, James Voltzs, Dottie Johnson, Jackie Richardson, Dale McGhee, Richard Bowman, Tammy Wooten, Lamont Washington, Hazel and Frank Miller, Tujuana Fowlkes, Marlon Miller, Dorothy R.
