O'dell Beard

BEARD, Mr. O'Dell "Po-Boy"- Age 75, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2006 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30AM Thursday, December 28, 2006 at New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church, with funeral service commencing at 11AM. Bishop Odis A. Floyd officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Thursday. Mr. Beard will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Mr. O'Dell Beard "Po-Boy" was born April 12, 1931 in Lisbon, Arkansas (Union County), the son of the late Jim and Josephine Beard of Brown Hill, AR. At an early age Mr. Beard moved up North to make a life for himself and his late wife, Erma Mae Beard. They were very successful in building a strong foundation. They had one dedicated daughter, Joyce Marie Beard, who was devoted to her parents in their good and bad days throughout their lives. Upon retiring from GM Metal Fab, O'Dell became a notorious "coon can" player and with this skill he ventured too many places. He was a true chameleon that was able to deal with and fit any situation that came up. "Po-Boy" loved dressing up and also loved all vehicles and dressed them to his unique standards as well. His favorite vehicle was the Cadillac and favorite color was money green. "Po-Boy" was a very kind person, who loved people and tried to help anyone that appreciated it. There was never a cost for what he would do for a friend, to name a few there is Peter Gun, Count, Mr. Jenkins, uncle Dave, Scott, Uncle John, Lou, Mark, Mr. Chew, Big Frank, Needle D and Mr. Coffee and many many more all over the United States. Mr. Beard leaves to cherish his memory: his baby girl, Joyce "Kid" Marie Beard; son-in-law, Alvin Broadnax; nephew, Willie Demetris (Angela) Davis; sister-in-law, Retha Mae Bryant both of Camden, AR; cousins, Fred (Jewel) Ross, C.W. (Donnie) Ross, Betsie (James) Spencer, J.L. (Gloria) Ross, all of Flint, Ben Ross and Joanne Ross of CA and many of AR; special daughter, Tara (Diantre) Howell; special nephew, Tyrone Franklin of AZ; special friends, Victoria Smith, Barbara Graham and son Ronald, Bobby Bird, Bea Beach, Kala, Tina, Juanita and son Buddy Patton, Latona (Cowboy) Gaither-Smith, and Ayona Jones, all of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Beard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Erma Mae Beard; 4 brothers; 1 sister; parents; sister-in-law, Ruby Lee Davis and close friend Pete Smith.
