Norman Metcalf

METCALF, Mr. Norman - Age 81, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2012. Family hour 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012 at North Star Missionary Baptist Church, 1657 Broadway Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 12Noon. Min. Michael Cobbins, officiating, Pastor James O. Flowers, Sr., Host Pastor. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Metcalf will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1-8 p.m. Friday. Mr. Norman Metcalf was born August 23, 1930 in Wheatley, Arkansas. He was employed by General Motors (Fischer Body’s Motors, and Buick City) for 30 years as an assembly worker and later in management as a Foreman. In 1993, he retired from General Motors, and later worked for more than a decade in security for Securitas where he was recognized, appreciated, and valued for being a reliable employee. Mr. Metcalf was married to his first wife Erma Moss for forty years prior to her death in 1993, and to his second wife Joyce Doggett for seven years prior to her death in 2010. He is survived by his children: Sheila (Henry) Bareiss of Rochester Hills, MI, Steven (Patricia) Metcalf of Atlanta, GA, Amie (Courtney) Garner of Grand Blanc, MI; step son, Eric (Erika) Harding of Atlanta, GA. He was grandfather to Stenisha (Richard McClain), Nicole, Shawn and Shenoby Metcalf, Michael and Dajiana Simmons, Erika and Lauren Bareiss, Justin and Steven Curry, Courtney LeeAnn Garner and Elise Harding. Mr. Metcalf was privileged to have seven great-grandchildren, Corrin, Kylan, and Caleb Metcalf, Jordyn Quinn, Skylar Durham, Isaiah Buchanan-Curry, and Kayden Curry. He will be greatly missed by his last surviving sibling, Lula Faye Vance of Detroit, MI; and special cousin and friend, Henry Lomax of Flint, MI; the loss of his humor and guiding presence will be felt by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and acquaintances. Mr. Metcalf was preceded in death by his first wife, Erma Moss, and second wife, Joyce Doggett; parents, Henry and Magnolia Metcalf; sisters, Ellawees Burt, Yvonne Davis, Jimella Mahorn, Novella and Anna Lee Metcalf; and brothers, Ernest Metcalf, and Herman Lincoln.
