LEE, Ms. Nicole D. - Age 52, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Michigan Medicine, Ann Arbor, MI. Family hour 11:00 AM Friday, May 9, 2025, at New Jerusalem Full Baptist Church 1035 E Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 12:00 PM. Pastor Alfred Harris Jr, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00 AM Friday. Ms. Lee will lie in state at New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Thursday with family present from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM to receive friends. Nicole Dejoe Lee, MA, LLPC, was born on November 12, 1972, in Flint, Michigan, the beloved daughter of Ada and Joseph Lee. She attended Flint Public Schools and graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1990. Following high school, she pursued studies in Pre-Law and Liberal Arts at the University of Detroit Mercy. On January 8, 1990, Nicole was blessed with the greatest joy of her life—her son, Colonel Devon Lee. Nicole’s early career included working at Tilt Amusement Center in Genesee Valley Mall and The Pretzel Place. In 1994, she began serving as an Administrative Secretary at Fairwinds Girl Scout Council and later joined the Urban League of Flint as a Management Information Systems (MIS) Specialist in the on the job training program. In 1999, Nicole found her calling in funeral services, becoming an obituary writer at Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home. Through dedication and compassion, she rose to the role of Manager and Funeral Arrangement Counselor, faithfully serving the Flint community for 16 years. Nicole earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and received her Chaplaincy certification from the University of Michigan–Flint. In 2015, she began volunteering as a Chaplain at Hurley Medical Center, later becoming the Patient Relations Manager. Her passion for counseling and ministry continued to grow, and in 2022, she earned her Master’s Degree in Clinical Counseling from Spring Arbor University. That same year, she founded Purlife Counseling Services, a reflection of her divine calling to listen, uplift, and walk daily in her purpose. Nicole was a loving, compassionate soul who lived to support, comfort, and guide others. A lifelong member of New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church of Flint, she served faithfully in numerous ministries, including the Intercessory Prayer Ministry, Monday Morning Glory Prayer Ministry (as both intercessor and moderator), United Women of New Jerusalem, and the Woman to Woman Ministry under the leadership of her aunt, Elder Deloris Vaughn. But perhaps most dearly to her heart, Nicole was a founding member of the New Jerusalem Liturgical Dance Ministry, established in 1996. Affectionately known as “Momma Nicole,” she poured countless hours into mentoring young girls into womanhood, leading with grace, wisdom, and unconditional love. Nicole’s ministry extended far beyond church walls. She was actively involved in Bridging the Gap Ministry, United Sisters Ministry, Watchman Warrior Ministry, and served as a leader in Chosen by God Ministry. A vibrant voice in the community, she appeared as a guest on Chennelle Dismond’s monthly Facebook Live series Navigating Cancer, and was featured in a video presentation at Pink Night Palooza, hosted by the Hurley Medical Center Foundation. Nicole’s faith-filled cancer journey was also highlighted in a forthcoming Our Daily Bread devotional, sharing testimony of the signs and miracles of God’s healing. In addition, she was a proud co-author of Black Women Surviving Survivorship, a collaborative work with Tara Tucker and others, giving voice to the strength and resilience of women overcoming cancer.
