Nathaniel Towns

TOWNS, Mr. Nathaniel - Age 80, went to be with God Friday, October 31, 2008 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 1:30PM Friday, November 7, 2008 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 2PM, Rev. Annie R. Duncan officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30PM Friday. Mr. Towns will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Thursday. Mr. Nathaniel Towns was born on May 23, 1928 in Odessadale, Georgia, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam and Annie Bell (Harris) Towns. Mr. Towns joined and was baptized at Branch Hebron Baptist Church in Odessadale, Georgia at an early age. He received his education in the Odessadale, GA public school system. Nathaniel joined the United States Military in 1952 and served in the Korean Conflict. He met and married Earnestine Delley in 1954. They were together for 54 years until his death. Mr. Towns was a proud employee of General Motors Chevrolet Truck and Bus for 39 years and was a member of UAW Local #659. In 1993, he retired to devote his time to his wife and family. Mr. Towns was a proud man who loved his wife and all his children. He was well respected by his family and friends. Mr. Towns was dedicated to helping his community and neighbors. All who knew him described him as a “Good Man”. He left us all with cherished memories, jokes and stories. Mr. Towns shared his wisdom with everyone he met and will be deeply missed by everyone he touched. He leaves to cherish his memories: wife of 54 years, Earnestine (Delley) Towns of Flint; 8 children, Marquita (James) Ogletree, Dwayne Towns all of Atlanta, GA, Derrick Towns, Dennis Towns both of Flint, Denise (Bryan) Towns-Parker of Rockwall, TX, Nivea, Marlanna and Nathaniel Southward, all of Flint; grandchildren, Collette and Maximillian Ogletree, Qiana Towns, Kimyasha Kirkland, Derrick Terrell Towns, Princeton, Udelle, Tierre, Cotton, Jaylen, and Dennis Adam Towns, Davon Southward, Tylar Parker, and Elan Southward; 2 brothers, Adam (Mary) Towns, Jr. of Detroit, MI and James (Ann) Towns of Chattanooga, TN; a host of nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Marcilet Harris of Desoto, TX and Lorraine Graham of Greenville, TX; brother-in-law, Julius Brown of Dallas, TX; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Melvin Jackson, Horace Jackson and Kermit Willis. Mr. Towns was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Annie Bell Towns; and sisters, Jewel Freeman, Bessie Clay and Oteal Towns. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Callaway and Hurley Medical Center.
