Mrs. Myrtel Estella Pea

PEA, Mrs. Myrtel Estella - age 88, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1601 Chippewa St. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Jacob Hawkins, Jr. Host Pastor and Dr. K.D. Yarber, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Pea will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 1 p.m.-8 p.m. Monday. Family will be present from 5 p.m to 8 p.m. Mrs. Myrtel Estella “Big Mamma” Pea transitioned to her heavenly home on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Hurley Medical Center. Myrtel was born December 17, 1925 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of the late William L. and Esther (Phillips) Thrasher. She was a faithful member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church for over 60 years and was an active member of the Senior Usher Board up until her transition. She worked several years in the community and was last employed with Mass Transportation Authority (MTA). Myrtel enjoyed cooking, spending time with her friends at Mince Manor, New Zion Missionary Baptist Church and her family, especially her great-granddaughter. Mrs. Myrtel Estella Pea leaves in God’s care her loving daughter, Rene (Willie) Cobbin; step-daughter, James Ola Hill; step-son, Ralph (Billie) Pea, all of Flint; 3 grandchildren, Pierre Cobbin of Saginaw, MI, Heather (Michael) Davis of Clio, MI and T’chelinda Carrouthers of Detroit, MI; great-granddaughter, Mychael Davis of Clio, MI; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Mildred Buggs, Mary Keys and Willie Ann Flynn; a host of special play daughters including, Helen Wilson and too many others to mention. Mrs. Pea was preceded in death by her husband Willie Pea; son, Maurice Thrasher; parents, William L. and Esther Thrasher; sisters, Eleanor Hull, Kathryn Atwater and Fannie May; brothers, Willie Thrasher and Jimmie Thrasher. The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Abdullah Raffee M.D., Dr. Geeta Rode, Hurley 4 West and 5 East Floor Nursing staff, Pastor Jacob Hawkins Jr. and the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church family and Dr. K.D. Yarber and Mt. Hermon Baptist Church family.
