Mr. Moses P. "Uncle Mose" Conerly

CONERLY, Mr. Moses P. "Uncle Mose" - Age 82, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 at his residence. Family hour 11:00 AM Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2109 Martin Luther King Ave., with service commencing at 12:00 PM Pastor Rodney Ellison officiating. Interment at Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, 5175 E. Bristol Rd., Burton, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church at 11:00 AM Saturday. Mr. Conerly will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday with family present. Mr. Moses P. Conerly was born April 24, 1934 in McComb, Mississippi, the son of Pervis and Lillie (Coney) Conerly, he was the 7th child of 10 children. Moses attended Pike County Schools in Magnolia, MS. He was very active and participated in many sports. Mose exceled in basketball where he achieved the ultimate goal of winning the state championship; under the leadership of Coach Lewis. Moses graduated from Rose Hill High School in 1953. On July 10, 1957 Moses and his oldest brother, Morris were awarded a Humanitarian Award for saving a young boys life. Several months after graduation Moses left for the “big city” of Flint, Michigan to begin his career. He resided with his brother, Morris and sister-in-law, Emma Conerly until he gained employment with Buick Motor Company, a division of General Motors. Mose was a truly devoted family man, whose love for his family was unquestioned: time spent with his children and grandchildren were treasured times for him. “Uncle Mose” as he was affectionately known throughout the City of Flint with his infectious smile, hearty laugh, and kind spirit. “Uncle Mose” was an avid hunter and a great lover of sports. He enjoyed Dominoes, card playing and especially Bid Whist, was his favorite. Moses was a devoted member for 50 years of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where he served faithfully on the Usher Board, and the Welcoming Hospitality Committee. He truly loved the Lord, which he would tell you is where his strength came from. Mose truly cared for his fellow man and those who knew him were truly blessed to be in his presence! In 1985, Mose retired from General Motors after 31 years of service and was a member UAW Local #599. Although he had a retired status, Moses never stopped working. He continued to drive trucks for several years for Thompson-McCully. In 1987, he joined the family of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, where he worked for 29 years and the staff also respectfully referred to him as “Uncle Mose”. At age 82, Moses finally decided to rest from the working force. Yet and still he continued to be the Patriarch of the family. Mr. Moses P. Conerly leave to cherish his memory: 5 children, Roderick Clements of Flint, Cynthia (Charles) Dixon of Antioch, TN, Terry Clements, Cammie (Maurice) Woodson, all of Flint, and Joyce Conerly of Baltimore, MD; 12 grandchildren, Lamar (LaShan) Dixon of Murfreesboro, TN, Daron (Rhea) Dixon of Hermitage, TN, Roderick Roberts, Maurice Woodson III, Amina Clements, Jamel Woodson, Jendaya Woodson, all of Flint, Makia Dixon of Antioch, TN, Jaleel Woodson of Flint, Jaylon Clements of Atlanta, GA, Khalil Conerly and Jaleyah Walker, both of Baltimore, MD; 6 great-grandchildren, Dalylah of Bakersfield, CA, Karma of Flint, Jayshawn of Hermitage, TN, Londyn of Murfreesboro, TN, Jala and Grayson, both of Flint; 2 sisters, Mary Vernon of Seaside, CA and Alice Lorraine Britt of Flint; brother, Frank (Rene) Conerly of Swartz Creek, MI; sister-in-law, Sandra Conerly of McComb, MS; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mr. Conerly was preceded in death by his wife, Margene Conerly; son, Timothy Conerly: granddaughter, RaShawnda Dixon; parents, Pervis and Lillie Conerly; brothers, Morris Sr., and Pervis Conerly Jr.; sisters, Mildred Miller, Eva Mae Ginn, Linnie B. Couch and Doris Holbrook. The family would like to express a very special thanks to Dora Montgomery, a special friend and loyal caregiver.
