Mrs. Montez Marie Dent

DENT, Mrs. Montez - Age 76, passed away Friday, October 29, 2021 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 4:30 PM Saturday, November 6, 2021 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 5:00 PM, Pastor Frederick L. Flowers Sr., officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 4:30 PM Saturday. Mrs. Dent will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 1:00 PM-6:00 PM Friday. Mrs. Montez Marie (Carnes) Dent, of Flint, Michigan was born to parents William B. Carnes, Jr. and Nancy E. (Gwinn) Carnes on July 22, 1945 in Montgomery, West Virginia. She unexpectedly departed this life on October 29, 2021 at age 76. Montez moved to Flint, MI as a teenager to join her parents and siblings where she graduated from Flint Central High School in 1962. She went on to obtain her associates degree from Flint Community College and pursued a career with General Motors SPO until her retirement in 1999. Montez met the love of her life, and married her husband Monroe Dent on January 16, 1981 in Flint, MI and were happily married for 40 years before her passing. They raised two daughters and have 2 granddaughters. Montez was an active member of Promise Tabernacle, under the leadership of Pastor Frederick L. Flowers, Sr. since November 1989. She was a Sunday School Teacher, an Usher, and a member of several auxiliary boards. Montez had several interests. She was an avid bowler, golfer and tennis player. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and various arts and crafts. She was a member of a local sewing/knitting group that volunteered their expertise to make clothing for local charities and shelters. She was a long-time member of Hasselbring Senior Center, where she developed new skills and friends during her years after retirement. Mrs. Montez Marie Dent leaves to cherish her memory: husband Monroe Dent; daughters, Moneka “Nicki” Dent and Monilla “Monie” (Jean Brierre) Polo; granddaughters, Micah Lawrence and Mia Polo; brothers-in-law, Arthur (Deborah) Dent and Willam Ernest (Louise) Dent; sister-in-law, Marian Shirley Hodge; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including dear friends, Teretha Wallace and Liz Jackson. Mrs. Dent was preceded in death by her parents, William and Nancy Carnes; siblings, William Craig, Marilyn, and Michael Carnes; nephew and great-nephew, William Craig II and William Craig III.
