GENTRY, Mrs. Maxine - Age 89, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2026 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 2, 2026, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Ronnie Wiggins, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, 4413 Flushing Rd, Flint, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:00 AM Wednesday. Mrs. Gentry will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Tuesday. Mrs. Maxine Cotton Gentry was born May 3, 1937, Oglethorpe, Georgia, the daughter of Mack and Gertrude (Wilson) Cotton. Maxine was a resident of Flint, Michigan and a member of El Bethel Evangelistic Missionary Baptist Church. She attended school in Macon County, GA and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards, and watching The Detroit Pistons. Maxine worked as a Caregiver. Mrs. Maxine Cotton Gentry leaves to cherish her memory: son, Melvin Gentry; 4 grandchildren, Darlisha Vincent, Ladetrice Vincent, Latrice Gentry and Cory Harris, all of Flint; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Elois Terry of Oglethorpe, GA, Doris Thompson and Annie Cotton, both of Atlanta, GA; 3 brothers, Mack Cotton Jr. of Lithonia, GA, Willie Cotton of Marshallville, GA and Jimmy Cotton of Stone Mountain, GA; sister-in-law, Essie Cotton of Marshallville, GA; brother-in-law, Fredrick Thompson of Atlanta, GA; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Betty Green and Minnie Boyd. Mrs. Gentry was preceded in death by her husband, James Gentry; children, Denise and Alvin Gentry; grandson, Ricardo Gentry; great-granddaughter, Jayla Keel; great-grandson, Kai’Den Scott; parents, Mack and Gertrude Cotton; sister, Mary Cotton; and brother, Leonard Cotton. The family would like to express special thanks to Hurley Medical Center staff, Veronica Triplett, all the family and friends of the Cotton and Gentry family.
