PEOPLES, Ms. Mary - Age 79, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015 at her residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, 1215 E Downey Ave. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Morris Collins officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Ms. Peoples will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12 p.m.-8 p.m., with the family present from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday. Ms. Mary Magdalene Peoples affectionately called “Tu-Tu” was born January 23, 1936 in Verbena, Alabama to the union of Mr. & Mrs. Robert & Estella Price. She was the youngest of two children. Mary was a kind and loving person to all that she encountered. Mary attended and graduated from the Fairfield Public School System located in Birmingham, Alabama. While she was yet in her youth she gained employment at Jefferson Hillman Hospital which sparked her interest into the medical field. Following her brother Moses, she relocated to Flint, Michigan where she gained employment at Hurley Hospital. After 30+ years she retired as a senior Nursing Assistant in 1985. Upon retirement, she was self-employed as a private duty nurse in the Genesee County area. Shortly after arriving in Michigan she met and married James Edward Peoples. God blessed this union with two children Kevin and Arnenia. She has been a long standing member of the Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend James Montgomery, and her current pastor, Reverend Morris Collins. She served on the Nurses Guild until her health failed. She enjoyed working in her yard, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends. In 2011, Mary was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer but she didn't allow this illness to keep her down. She fought a long continuous fight until the very end. James 1:12 says, Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love Him. Ms. Mary Magdalene Peoples leaves to cherish her memory 3 children: 1 daughter: Ms. Arnenia M. Odum. 2 sons: Mr. Kevin J. Peoples of Battle Creek, MI, and Mr. Carl Parker of Flint, MI. Her One Hundred Year Old Mother: Ms. Estella Price. 5 Grandchildren: Ebony (Jovan) Peoples-Wordlaw of Dallas, TX. Justin McCray of Phoenix, AZ. Brandon D. Odum of Dallas, TX. Blake E. Odum of Flint, MI. Kathy Peoples of Las Vegas, NV. 2 Great-Grandchildren. God Daughter: Ms. Katrina Bolton of Davison, MI. Sister in-law(s): Ms. Claudia Price, Ms. Allean Kemp. Ms. Fannie Price. Brother in-law(s): Mr. Charles Green, Mr. Robert (Annie) Peoples. Special nieces: Paulette Price of Gatesville TX. Ms. Bridgett Pringle, Ms. Gina Smith of Flint, MI. Mrs. Wanda Campbell of Fort Meyers, FL. Special cousins: Ms. Gloria Bates of Savannah, GA. Ms. Vesta Wright of Los Angeles, CA. Ms. Agusta Larkin of Atlanta, Ga. A host of other relatives and dear friends too many to name. Caregivers: Mrs. Bonita Thompson, Jean Petty, Ms. Ertha Wilson (cousin) & Olivia Rubin. Ms. Mary Magdalene Peoples was preceded in death by: Mr. Robert Price (Father) Mr. Moses Price, Sr. (Brother) Moses Price, Jr. (Nephew) Jealean Cook and Catherine Hicks (Cousins).
