Mary Carradine

CARRADINE, Mrs. Mary E. - Of Flint, formerly of Orange,TX, Age 76, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, December 19, 2011 at her residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at St. John Vianney Parish, 2319 Bagley St., with Celebratory Mass commencing at 11 a.m. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Carradine will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Mary Ethel (Riggs) Carradine was born on March 8, 1935 in Orange, Texas, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Riggs. Mary was the 10th child of 16 siblings. Mary graduated from Emma H. Wallace High School. She married J.C. Carradine and they later relocated with their family to Flint, MI. Mary was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for over 40 years until they closed the church and she then became a member of St. John Vianney Parish. She held numerous positions where she and Sister Claudia opened in Flint; 1st Catholic Outreach Soup Kitchen. Mary worked for Imlay City Truck and Bus Company and retired after 20 years in 1985. She then became a Business Entrepreneur and Co-Owner of a family restaurant for over 8 years. They closed the business and Mary decided to work again and became employed with Saturn where she worked for another 20 years finally retiring to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She also began to travel and enjoy life. Mary and J.C. Carradine had 11 children; 5 sons and 6 daughters. She leaves to cherish her memory: 4 daughters, 1SG (Ret) Beverly Carradine-Gilmore of Hinesville, GA, Karen Ann Carradine (Charles) Jackson of Columbia, SC, Terry Carradine and Kimberly Carradine; 3 sons, Robert Harrison Kelly, Peter Douglas Carradine and Patrick Carradine, all of Flint; 21 grandchildren, Tyrone, Roderick and Precious Kelly, Deonte Matthews, J.C. Quinn and Equandre Carradine, Kelandria and Robert Kelly II, Timothy Carradine, Gabrielle Miguel, Nicole Carradine, Alexandria and Lorenzo Philpots, Lorenda Baker, Tatyana Carradine, Tashiela Dantzler, Ashley, Jasmine and Christopher Gilmore, Patricia Carradine and Ashley Jackson; 17 great-grandchildren; 7 sisters, Lee Esther Riggs Floyd, Ora Mae Riggs Smith, both of Orange, TX, Elnora Riggs Carter of Los Angeles, CA, Barbara Riggs Long of Pomona, CA, Craddie Riggs, Theresa Riggs (Lawrence) Holmes of Inglewood, CA and Elizabeth Riggs Gore of Moreno Valley, CA; brother, John Lewis (Claudine) Riggs of Orange, TX; sister-in-law, Barbara Drumgole; brothers-in-law, Grant Carradine and John Drumgole; a host of other relative and friends. Mrs. Carradine was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Carradine; daughters, Phyllis Kelly and Bridgette Carradine; sons, Craig Carradine and Cedric Carradine; 2 grandsons, Karendus Tillis and Nathan Kelly; parents, Edward and Elizabeth Riggs; brothers, Robert, Edward, James and Sam; sisters, Cora and Patricia. The family would like to express special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Genesys Health Park and Hurley Medical Center, Hurley Cancer Institute; Joyce Fahrner, M.D., Marsha Schmitt, RN, Rhonda Burns and Dr. R.A.
