Mrs. Mary Francis Burton

BURTON, Mrs. Mary - Age 94, passed away Friday, April 8, 2022 at Sugarbush Manor. Family hour 10:30 AM Thursday, April 14, 2022, from Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church,4805 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Rev. Dr. Henry L. Fuller Jr, officiating. Interment, Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Bedford Rd Holly, MI. Friends and family will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Thursday. Mrs. Burton will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM Wednesday. Mrs. Mary Francis Burton was born April 13, 1927 in Pontoc, Mississippi. She was the fourth of eight siblings born to Dannie Williams-Armstrong and Clayton Armstrong. Mary moved to Grand Rapids in 1960 where she joined other family members. In 1961, she moved to Flint, Michigan where she became employed in healthcare. She married the love of her life, James Leroy Burton, on August 15, 1962. Mary united with the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in 1967 under the pastorage of the late Rev. Dr. Granville Smith, Sr. and then the Rev. Dr. Henry L. Fuller, Jr. There she served on the Usher Ministry, the Deaconess Ministry and was an active Sunday School attendee until her health began to fail. Mary was known as a compassionate, loving and caring woman. This was demonstrated in her years of employment in healthcare as a caregiver, which was her passion. She was “jazzy” fun-loving and one of the most humorous and amusing people you will ever meet. She kept you laughing and there was never a dull moment when you were in her presence. Most of all, she loved the Lord, family, and her Mt. Calvary Church family. Mary was a true warrior for Christ. Mrs. Mary Francis Burton leaves to cherish precious memories: devoted and loving husband of 59 years, James L. Burton; sister, Jane Dandridge of Grand Rapids, MI; grandson, Anthony (Zakiya) Ingram of Alpharetta, GA; 3 great-grandchildren, Saraya, Ebony and Anthony Ingram Jr.; devoted god-children and care overseers, Earl and Diane Crowder; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including long-time dear friends, Mother Estelle Rawls, Ira Boyd and Gertrude Young and Shirley Tolbert, all of Flint who touched her life in a special way. Mary was preceded in death by her son, Larry Edmons; mother, Dannie Williams-Armstrong; father, Clayton Armstrong; 6 siblings, Norris Williams, Joseph Williams, Margarite Williams, Robert Williams, Arthur Williams and Virginia Peay.
