BUCK, Mrs. Mary Lee - Age 83, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2023 at her residence. Public visitation 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM Saturday, March 25, 2023 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. A private service will follow, with Rev. Tommie Chaney, officiating. Interment, Flint Memorial Park, G-9506 W. Flint Park Blvd. To everything, there is a season and a time to every purpose. A time to be born: Mrs. Mary Lee Buck née Spiller was born in Union Church, Mississippi on June 4, 1939. She was the beloved daughter of Prather and Addie Spiller née Clark. Mary spent her formative years in Port Gibson, Mississippi, where she excelled in basketball. She cherished a loving relationship with siblings Johnnie, Lynell, Dorothy, Odell, and Louis. Upon relocating to Flint, Michigan, she attended Flint Public Schools, graduating with Flint Central High School’s class of 1959. Mary peacefully transitioned from this earthly life on Sunday, March 19, 2023. A time to plant & a time to love: Mary accepted Christ at a young age and upon moving to Flint in 1956, she established membership at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. Mary later joined New Jerusalem Full Gospel Missionary Baptist Church (formerly New Jerusalem Baptist Church). It was there that she spent more than 50 years. She was a proud member and past president of the Usher Board Number one Mary wed her high school sweetheart George Buck, and together they raised three children: Sons Joseph and Gregory, and daughter Pamela, Mary balanced family and employment with General Motors Corporation - AC Spark Plug, retiring after 28 years of service to GM UAW Local # 651. A time to pluck that which is planted: Mary especially cherished and nurtured relationships with her five grandchildren. LaTasha Cooper, Sharece Devougas, Ricky Muldrew, Jaya Muldrew, and Micah Christian. She was their devoted grandmother, and they affectionately called her “Goggie”. ‘Goggs’ was the source of much wisdom and laughter. Her four great-grandchildren Steven, Cameron, Chloe, and Ari Sophia were the true loves of her life. Mary planted seeds of comfort and joy to many. "Mama Buck" was a surrogate mom to many children and grandchildren: She shared countless laughs with nieces, and nephews and was the watchful eye for her York Street sons and daughters. The Smith, Younger, and Tucker children all knew how to behave in her presence: They deeply loved and revered her. Mary enjoyed puzzling, movie-going with her niece Patricia Greene, reminiscing with her niece Karen Spiller, and all things basketball and football (Go Michigan State). A time to weep: Mary leaves to mourn and cherish her memory daughter Pamela Buck of Charlotte, NC; sons Joseph and Gregory Buck of Flint, MI. Grandchildren LaTasha (Deandre) Cooper of Lansing, MI; Sharece (Steven) Devougas of Milwaukee, WI; Ricky (Carli Papp) Muldrew, Jaya (Stephen Allen) Muldrew, and Micah Jewell Christian, all of Charlotte, NC. She will be greatly missed by her precious great-grandchildren Steven Alexander Devougas III, Cameron Allen Cooper, Chloe Giselle Cooper, and Ari Sophia Allen. Mary leaves her life-long friend of 58 years whom she affectionately called her sister, Betty Jean Huddleston of Mt. Morris, MI., a devoted forever son-in-love Eric J. Christian of Charlotte, NC., and godson Chris Huddleston of Mt Morris, MI. She will be missed by sisters-in-law Girlie Buck of Flint, MI; Bobbie Rouser of Las Vegas, NV; Shirley Williams of Chicago, IL; Connie Spiller of Louisville, KY., aunt Betty Jean Green of Sumrall, MS; uncles Daniel Clark and Frank Clark of Union Church, MS. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, George Washington Buck Jr., parents, Prather and Addie Spiller, mother-in-law William Etta Buck, siblings Johnnie Spiller, Lynell Spiller, Dorothy Greene, Odell Spiller Sr., Louis Spiller, James Earl Spiller, and Rosie Ann Spiller as well as numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, aunts and uncles, nieces, and nephews. Heartfelt gratitude to the NJFGMBC and Usher Board #1, the healthcare team at Davita Dialysis in Mt. Morris, MI. including Kelli, Duane, and Robin, and Mary at Harmony Cares Hospice in Flint, MI.
