Mrs. Margaret C. Gillard

GILLARD, Mrs. Margarett C. - Age 81, passed away Monday, March 23, 2015 at her residence. Memorial service will commence at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Kingdom Hall - Jehovah Witness, 1187 S Dye Rd. Brother Don Brown Officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the hall 2 p.m. Saturday. There will be no public viewing. Mrs. Margarett C. Gillard was born in Olmstead, Illinois on November 14, 1933. Born to the union of Mr. and Mrs. James P. Sr. and Pearl (Woods) Walker. She was one of Jehovah’s Witness where she attended the Western Hills Congregation. Mrs. Gillard was employed with Hurley Medical Center in 1977. Where she worked as a Nurse Manager in Pediatrics 2-E, and was later promoted to Co-director of nursing. Mrs. Gillard was responsible for assuring the quality of patient care, staff, nursing units and problem-solving. Mrs. Gillard retired in 1995. She was a founding member and the first president of the Flint Professional Black Nurses Association from 1979-1986. Mrs. Gillard has numerous awards and citations for her work in the medical field and volunteer work. Margarett enjoyed gardening, reading, writing, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was very loving and supportive to all who knew her. She leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Mr. Ray Gillard Sr. of Flint, MI; daughters, Barbara (Emmanuel) Smith of Flint, MI, Terri E. Gillard of Chicago, IL; son, Derrick Gillard of Flint, MI; grandchildren, Tracee and Paris Smith of Stafford, TX, Hart Gillard of Flint, MI, Alex Komaromi of South Lyon, MI; sisters, Minister Helen Turner, Alma Cooper and Bessie Walker of Flint, MI; brother, James P. Walker Jr. of Flushing, MI; special nieces, LaTonya Turner and Jewel Boykin; cousin, Earline Jones of Springfield, IL; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Mrs. Tommie Davis, Mrs. Mattie Hatter, Mrs. Margaret Baron, Mrs. Flo Green, Glen Fosdick, Phil Dutcher, Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Dismond, and Dr. N. Gersch. Mrs. Gillard is preceded in death by daughter, Debra Gillard and son, Ray Gillard Jr.; parents, Mr. and Mrs. James P. Sr. and Pearl (Woods) Walker. The family would like to extend special thanks to Willowbrook Manner, U of M Hospital, Angeline RN, Keith RN, Alana RN, and Hurley Medical Center Staff and friends.
