THOMAS, Mrs. Louisa "Sweet" - Age 89, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 19, 2020 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Charles E. Roots, officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 AM Tuesday. Mrs. Thomas will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Monday. Mrs. Louise (Leverette) Thomas was born Louisa Leverette on February 8th, 1931 to Otha and Hannah Leverette in Marion, Alabama. The high-spirited daughter was one of thirteen children. Louise attended Lincoln High School in Marion, Alabama where she met Aldrich Cureton Sr. whom she married In 1947. The couple relocated to Illinois where they started their family and to this union, 7 children were born. The family relocated to Flint, MI in 1955 for better opportunities. In 1965, she began her career at K-Mart corporation which she retired from in 1992 as the lead supervisor cook. In 1975, Louise married Albert Thomas and within this union she gained 6 step children. Mrs. Thomas was the matriarch of her family. She was known for her warm spirit and kind heart; her nickname, "Sweet", was a perfect fit. She enjoyed laughter and was like a mother to many. Louise loved her family so much, she would call each of her siblings and children every day for joyful conversations. She was loved by many; family, friends and community members gravitated towards her because just the sound of her voice would warm your heart. Mrs. Thomas was very intelligent, strong willed, peaceful, and confident. She attended Canaan Baptist Church, which she served on the nurse’s board and was a member for over 50 years. Mrs. Thomas loved cooking, shopping, taking trips to the casino, traveling, socializing, and listening to gospel and blues music. She loved a variety of tv shows but her favorite was Judge Judy. On Saturday May 9, 2020, she was called to rest. She leaves to cherish her memory 3 daughters; Diane VanHook of Grand Blanc MI; Doris Cureton and Elleane Raji of Flint MI; 3 sons; Aldrich Cureton III, Samuel Cureton and Kenneth Cureton all of Flint MI; 2 stepdaughters; Cheyenne Hannah and Willie Mae Thomas; 3 stepsons; Alfred Woodward, Bennie White and Larry Thomas; sister-in-law, Lillie Leverette; 34 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, and nephews. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her parents, Otha and Hannah Leverette; her husband Albert Thomas, her siblings Otha Jr. (Loretha) Leverette, Julia (Willie) King, Allen (Madie) Leverette, Bose (Loriene) Leverette, Eugene (Roberta) Leverette, J.W. (Flossie) Leverette, Joe Leverette, Andrew “B” Leverette, Alexander “Foster” Leverette, Malinda “Lynn” Robinson, Charlie Leverette, Elleane “Penny” Terry; Son; Abraham Cureton; Stepdaughter; Delphine Thomas and 3 grandchildren; Marcus Mosley, Tony D’Angelo Cureton and Samuel Wesley Jackson.
