SHEPERD, Mr. Lewis, Jr. - Age 68, passed away Monday, February 21, 2011 at Grand Blanc Rehabilitation Nursing Center. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 2 p.m. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Shepard will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Lewis E. Shepherd, Jr. was born December 28, 1942 in Kinston, North Carolina, the son of Helen Carter and Lewis Shepherd, Senior. Lewis resided in Flint, Michigan for most of his life. He believed in the Lord and attended church occasionally. Most of his time was spent with his grandson, Jibre and niece, Lynette, taking them riding, to the beach and out to eat. Lewis loved listening to gospel and blues music and was a great singer. He was a very well-loved man, father, and grandfather. Lewis had a good heart and would help you in any way he could. He was a very strong man, even through his illness he fought to the end. Lewis definitely was a living legend. He leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Lethia Shepherd of Flint; son, Andre Brown of North Carolina; 2 stepchildren, Mable and Rosie Burgess; grandchildren, Jibre Gibson, Amari Baker, Azaria Brown, Tywon Burgess, Laquita Burgess, Delvi Burgess, all of Flint, Exinnay Brown and Justis Odom of North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Tashala Burgess and Tywon DeQuae Burgess; 4 sisters, Melva Brewer of Des Moines, IA, Jacqueline Soleman of Greensboro, NC, Debra and JoAnn Carter; 4 brothers, Marshall Lee Carter, Marval Carter, Lynnell D. Carter and Bryant Carter, all of Flint; a host of nieces and nephews including special niece, Lynette Spears; aunt, Juanita Murrell; cousin, George Murrell; sister-in-law, Shirley (Greg) Adair; brother-in-law, Henry Soleman of Greensboro, NC; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Yolanda Ivory and Henrietta Brown. Mr. Shepherd was preceded in death by his grandson, Jomarion Gibson; parents, Helen Carter and Lewis Shepherd, Senior; sister, Vanessa Carter; brother, Michael Carter; and daughter’s mother, Maple Jones.
