Mr. Levi Campbell

CAMPBELL, Mr. Levi - Age 90, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Briarwood Manor. Family hour 10:30 AM Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 4805 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Rev. Dr. Henry L. Fuller, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Wednesday. Mr. Campbell will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday. Bro. Levi Campbell was born August 31, 1927 in Monroe, Louisiana, the son of Alvin and Edna Campbell, one of thirteen children. The family resided in Kerrville, Texas where he grew up and later graduated from Doyle School. He married his long time sweetheart, the love of his life, Zula Mae Nesby on January 3, 1952. Levi attended Sam Houston College for three years on a music scholarship (playing the guitar). Bro. Campbell moved to Flint, Michigan in 1953. He was employed at Chevrolet V-8 Engine, a division of General Motors retiring after 39 years of service. Bro. Campbell united with the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in 1998, attending Church School and Prayer and Bible Study. He used his ability for artistic drawings to add to the presentation of plays and dramas, he also sketched drawings of his family and co-workers, including their pets. Bro. Campbell enjoyed spending time with his family, drawing and the many activities at the senior center (Hasselbring Senior Center). Bro. Levi Campbell leaves to cherish sweet memories: wife of 66 years, Zula Mae; 2 daughters, Lavera A. Campbell of Plano, TX and Edith J. (Charles) Ndumbi of Kinshasa, DR Congo, Africa; 2 sons, Levi Campbell Jr. of Columbus, OH and Rico (Tonae) Campbell of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Marie (Edgar) Mills of Columbus, OH; brother, Alvin Campbell Jr., of Los Angeles, CA; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Owens of Flint; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews including nieces, Thelma (Johnny) Jefferson, Dora Daniels and Ardellia Williams of Flint.
