Leonard Herron

HERRON, Mr. Leonard - Age 73, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2008 at his residence. Viewing 10AM Friday, January 2, 2009 at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1601 Chippewa St., with funeral service commencing at 11AM, Dr. W.G. Terry officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Friday. Mr. Herron now lies in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10AM-8PM today. Mr. Leonard Herron was born December 2, 1935 in Vian, OK, the son of Roy and Malinda (Thompson) Herron Vaughn. Leonard graduated from Flint Central High School “Class of 1955” where he played football. He attended Mott Community College and graduated as a Registered Nurse. Leonard was employed at Hurley Medical Center, Flint General Hospital and General Motors Medial Department, retiring in 1998. Mr. Herron enjoyed his family and was courteous and helpful to everyone he came in contact with. Mr. Leonard Herron leaves in God’s care: faithful wife, Louise Herron; 3 biological sons, Nathan Martel, Mr. & Mrs. Grant Darwin and Deliah Herron and Mr. & Mrs. Ray O. and Debra Simmons all of Flint; 7 grandchildren, Demontrey, Derrick, Ray, Arshad, Tyranius, Ashley and Jacqueline; 9 great-grandchildren; stepmother, Sylvania Herron; 2 sisters, Tameka and Verona Herron of Flint; 3 brothers, Mr. & Mrs. Mac and Wilma, Mr. & Mrs. Patrick and Donna, Cornelious Trust; 2 stepbrothers, Joseph Rochester of Detroit and Lamont Pouncil of Kansas City, MO; stepsister, Diana Robinson; 4 aunts, Mae O. Hutchinson of Elliott City, MD, Zelma Dockery, JoAnn Herron both of Kansas City, MO, Pearletha Herron of Flint; 2 uncles, Raymond (Angie) Herron of Upper Marlboro, MD and James Herron of Kansas City, MO; sister-in-law, M. Dorothy Gillespie of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including Harvey Phillips and Manuel Bowman, Arthur and Lillian Henry. Mr. Herron was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and brother, Charles Herron. The family would like to express special thanks to Avalon Hospice, Genesys Regional, Hurley Cancer Staff and New Zion Missionary Baptist Church Family and everyone for the love and support.
