Lency Neely

NEELY, Lency Calvin - Age 64, passed away Monday, April 23, 2012 at Avalon Hospice. Family hour 10 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2012 at Ebenezer Ministries, 2130 S. Center Rd., with funeral service commencing at 10:30 a.m. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Monday. Mr. Neely will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. with family present from 3-5 p.m Sunday. Mr. Lency “Calvin” Neely was born April 18, 1948 in Memphis, Tennessee to the union of the late Willie and Mattie B. Neely. Calvin was the 7th of 12 children. He professed Christ at an early age while attending Little John Baptist Church, where he was a member until his adult years. Lency graduated from Woodstock High School. He attended Tennessee State University-Nashville until being drafted into the United States Army. While in the Army he received a Purple Heart and was Honorably Discharged in 1970. Lency was a member of Ebenezer Ministries, under the leadership of Bishop Urundi B. Knox, where he enjoyed singing with the Ebenezer Male Chorus. Calvin was a supervisor for General Motors Corporation and retired after 31 years of service. After retiring from GM he was employed by Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home. He was united in Holy Matrimony with the love of his life, Janise Grady in 1983. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Calvin loved to cook, travel and was an avid reader. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Mr. Lency Calvin Neely leaves to cherish his memory: loving and devoted wife of 29 years, Janise (Grady) Neely; 4 children, son, Calvin DeQuin (Deborah) Neely of Stockton, CA; 3 daughters, Lavita (Marcus) Harris of Flint, Yolanda Dean of Houston, TX and Deja Hughes of California; god-daughter, Ashley (Anthony) Green of Lansing, MI; 8 grandchildren, Jimmy (Shytiauna) Bunch of Afghanistan, Dalon, Calvin Jr., Taquandra, Adrian, Noah, Alexandria and Arianna; 2 great-granddaughters, Noel and Zoel; 4 sisters, Robbie Hardaway of Colorado Springs, CO, Nellie (Milton) Kelly of Memphis, TN, Earnestine Small of Flint and Willester Walton of Jacksonville, FL; 3 brothers, Willie (Mary) Neely of Nashville, TN, Kenneth (Jackie) Neely of Wichita, KS and Norman (Gwendolyn) Neely of Atoka, TN; 3 sisters-in-law, Wilma Sisco of Memphis, TN, Mildred Sisco and Jacqueline Neely; 2 brothers-in-law, George (Genola) Montgomery and James Montgomery, all of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special friends, Henry Mallory, Cornell Pinson, Lucian (Joe Elle) Adams and Jerry (Dolores) Harris. Mr. Neely was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Mattie B. Neely; 3 brothers; sister; father and mother-in-law. The Neely family would like to express special thanks to Bishop Urundi B. Knox and the Ebenezer Ministries Church Family, the staff of Genesys Health Park, Avalon Hospice, Dr. M. Agabigum for their care and compassion during Calvin’s illness.
