HIGGINS, Pastor Larry - Age 76, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Durand Senior Care, Durand, MI. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, August 2, 2024, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Michael Lewis, officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home, 10:00 AM Friday, August 2, 2024. Pastor Higgins will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, Public viewing will be held only during the family hour. Pastor Higgins was Honorably Discharged from the United States Air Force. Pastor Larry James Higgins was born on February 16,1948 in Flint Michigan, to the proud parents of, the late Jimmie, and Genora Higgins. Pastor Higgins was a product of the Flint Community Schools where he attended Parkland Elementary, Emerson Junior High, and graduated from Northern High School, “Class of 1966.” Shortly after graduating high school, he made a pledge to Flint Junior College's Phi Eta Psi Fraternity, Inc. and was one of the first Blacks to cross over. Larry accepted Christ into his life at a young age, and was deeply rooted in the Word of God. He often spoke about how God put it up on his heart to enlist in the Armed Forces to serve his country, and therefore he enlisted in the United States Air Force; bravely served, and received a Honorable Discharge. Larry continued to allow the Holy Spirit to guide him as he attended Theological School so that he could get a better understanding as to what God was calling him to do; which was ultimately to preach, and teach His Holy Word., as he brought people to Christ. Upon completion of the Theological curriculum, Larry became an ordained preacher, and this brought great joy to his heart. Larry attended several churches throughout the Flint area, and was initially a member of Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. After Larry became Rev. Larry Higgins, he ultimately became the Pastor of Golden Rule Missionary Baptist Church. Throughout his Pastorage, Pastor Higgins served a leadership role in the Great Lakes Baptist District Association, the Great Lakes Baptist District Congress, and The United Baptist Institute; where he taught Christian Education. Pastor Higgins also hosted a Christian radio show entitled, "Let's Talk About It" for several years, whereby he spread the Word of God over the airways on WFLT 1420 Radio Station. Pastor Larry James Higgins was a God-fearing, and hard-working man who lived his life to fulfill God's purpose for him on this Earth. He had unwavering love for his family, and great work ethics. He worked 40 plus years for General Motors at Buick Motor Division, and he had exemplary attendance, timeliness as well as integrity. Pastor Larry James Higgins leaves to cherish his Precious Memories: his loving, and devoted wife of 37 years, Mildred Higgins, whom he affectionately called "Babe"; 2 special daughters;, Dana (William) Morris and LaRonda Bates; sister, Cynthia Higgins; brother, Derrick Higgins; 2 nephews, D'Andre Jackson and Myles Thompson; special nephew, Terry Miller; aunt, Rosa Higgins; special cousin, Mable Wesley; a host of other relatives and friends survive including special friends, Phi Eta Psi Fraternity, Inc. Pastor Higgins was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie and Genora Higgins; sister, Delphine Higgins Roberts. The family would like to express special thanks to: Durand Senior Care Facility, McLaren-Flint, McLaren Hospice Care Facility, Phi Eta Psi Fraternity, Inc, Pastor Michael Lewis, Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church family and Lawrence E.
