GATES, Mrs. Judy Alberta - age 58, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014 at St. Dominic Hospital-Jackson, MS. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Latrelle W. Holmes, Sr. officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Gates will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Judy Alberta (Davis) Gates was born on December 20, 1955 in North Carrolton, Mississippi to Clarence & Abi Lena Davis. She was employed by AC Spark Plug (Delphi) a Division of General Motors, and retired after 25 years of service. Judy was a member of Greater Galilee Baptist Church serving on the Nurses Guild until she moved back to her home state of Mississippi. She enjoyed reading, playing computer games and a good southern meal with her family. She found her most enjoyment by spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Judy was a kind-hearted, soft-spoken person and devoted friend, who would never turn away anyone in need, and because of this she was known as “Nana” to many. Mrs. Judy Gates leaves in God’s care: her beloved husband, Rufus Gates; 2 devoted daughters, Stephanie (Deshon) Dixon and Tamala (Antonio) Johnson, both of Jackson, MS; 2 loving step-daughters, Joi and Rachele Gates, both of Flint; 9 adoring grandchildren, Antwan Dixon, Sequoyia Jones, Alexander Givens II, Ashanni Dukes and Deshari Bedenfield, all of Flint, Zenais, Antonio, Jr., Olivia and Bryce Johnson all of Jackson, MS; sister Supt. Earlie (Elder Samuel) Peppers of Ann Arbor, MI; 4 brothers, Eld. Robert (Beatrice) Davis of Carrollton, MS, Leroy Davis, Richard Davis, and Ernest (Valerie) Davis all of Flint; 3 sisters-in-laws, Dr. Ernestine Riggs of Chicago, IL, Germaine (Gilbert) Davis of Warrior, AL, and Linda (Claude) Williams of Grand Blanc, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including long-time friends, LaVaughn Marve of Montrose, MI, Obbie Tyson and Mildred Larkin both of Flint, MI. Judy Gates was welcomed in heaven by: her daughter, Fiona Givens; son, Alexander Givens, Sr.; parents; grandparents; sister, Willye Paul Davis; 3 brothers, Archie Lee Davis, Clarence, Jr. and Andrew Davis; mother-in-law, Sylvia Gates; father-in-law, Rufus Gates, Sr.; sister-in-law, Gwen Davis; and brother-in-law, Leonard Strozier.
