CHARLES, Mr. Johnnie - Age 78, passed away Monday, June 6, 2011 at Avalon Hospice. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2011 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 2 p.m. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Charles will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Monday. Mr. Johnnie Lee “One Watt” Charles was born December 26, 1932 in Gould, Arkansas the son of Rosa Lee Sanders and Monroe Charles. Johnnie was the youngest of 3 boys. He attended Arkansas Public Schools. Johnnie was employed at General Motors as a Fork Lift Driver for 33 years, retiring in 1993. He met and married his devoted wife of 43 years, Willie Mae Jackson. Johnnie was a Mason of Rose of Sharon Eastern Star. “One Watt” as he was often called was a avid fisherman who enjoyed talking on his CB, going to the casino, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a loving, caring, husband and father. Mr. Johnnie Lee Charles was greatly loved by all and will be sadly missed. He leaves to cherish his memory: devoted wife, Willie Mae Charles; 2 sons, Harold (Alisa) Jackson and Mike (Avanell) Jackson; daughter-in-law, Erin Jackson; 5 grandsons, Harrell Jackson, Rondal (SiToya Singleton) Jackson, Jr., E’Ron Jackson, Jalen Jackson, all of Flint and Marcellus Wade of North Carolina; 6 granddaughters, Brittney (Jaquilan) Jackson, Markita (Jaren) Jackson, Briana (Terrence) Green, Kiara Martin, Makalah Jackson, all of Flint and Harisha Jackson of North Richland Hills, TX; 7 great-grandchildren, Jareion Jackson, Rondal E. Jackson, Terrance Green, Jr., Ma'Kiyah Brown, Ny'Asia Adams Amari Waters and Olivia Coley, all of Flint; 1 brother, Thomas “TJ” Charles of Crossett, AR; numerous nieces and nephews; 4 sisters-in-law, Geneva Charles of Chicago, IL, Clara (Clifford) Smith, Kitty (Norman) Gray, all of Flint and Pearl (Isaac) Reed of Chicago, IL; 5 brothers-in-law, Walter “Koo-Koo” (Loretta) Jackson, all of Flint, Willie (Brazzie) Jackson, Jr., Leroy (Diane) Jackson, Noble (Jean) Jackson, all of Memphis, TN and Curtis (Sandra) Jackson of Tunica, MS; a host of other special relatives and friends. Mr. Charles was preceded in death by his son, Rondal L. Jackson, Sr.; grandson, Karon D. Counts; parents, Rose Lee Sanders and Monroe Charles; grandparents; sisters, Willie Mae “Red” Charles and Alberta Charles; brothers, Nathaniel Charles and Virgil (Helen) Charles; nephews, Harold O. Davis and Norman Nelson, III; mother and father-in-law, Lodenia and Willie Jackson, Sr.; niece, Patricia Gray; and sister-in-law, Louise Caldwell. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Avalon Hospice, Heartland Homecare, the Cooper, Wafford, Luckett, Davis, Alston, Hopson, Bell and Isom families.
