EVANS, Mr. John R. - Age 76, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, June 22, 2009 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30AM Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Ebenezer Ministries, 2130 S. Center Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11AM, Senior Pastor Urundi Knox officiating. Interment will be held 2:30PM Monday, June 29, 2009 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Saturday. Mr. Evans will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2PM-8PM Friday. Mr. John Robert Evans was born November 27, 1932 in Nash County, North Carolina to the late Elijah and Ada (Wright) Evans. John accepted the Lord as his Savior as a young man and was baptized in the Pleasure Hill Baptist Church in Nash County. He was an Honorably Discharged United States Army Veteran. John joined the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church shortly after moving to Flint in 1956, and later joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church under the late Pastor Clarence Knox, where he served in numerous capacities. John remained a faithful member until his death. He worked for General Motors Corporation, retiring as a General Supervisor from Service Parts Operations after 37 years of dedicated service. John was a very kind and compassionate man. He leaves to cherish sweet memories: wife of 53 years, Julia Maxine (Cyrus) Evans; daughter, Sheila K. Evans of Flint; 3 sons, John Michael and Vincent Evans of Flint and Marvin Evans of Lansing, MI; 5 grandchildren, Jerome Mayberry of Flint, Vianca Evans of Lithia Spring, GA, Destiny Evans and Demaurie Whatley, both of Lansing, MI and Sam Evans of Flint; 2 sisters, Ruby McWilliams of Flint and Daisy Buckner of Grand Blanc, MI; 5 brothers, Charles (Ella Ree) Evans of Flint, Alex (Bessie Jo) Evans of Grand Blanc, MI, Ben (Beatrice) Evans of Enfield, NC, Roger (Rachel) Evans of Maplewood, NJ and Derick Evans of Grand Blanc, MI; aunt, Dorothy (Will) Avent of Whitakers, NC; 6 sisters-in-law; 5 brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his son, Robert M. Evans; parents, Elijah and Ada (Wright) Evans; 2 brothers, Percy and Edmond Evans; mother and father-in-law, Roger and Geneva (Richardson) Cyrus; 2 sisters-in-law; 1 brother-in-law.
