Mr. Joel Ragland

RAGLAND, Mr. Joel - Age 59, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2012 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2 p.m. Bishop John Allen officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Mr. Ragland will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12 noon-8 p.m. Friday with family present from 4-8 p.m. Mr. Joel Ragland was born June 16, 1953 in Oxford, Mississippi, the son of Eugene Ragland and Julia Berry. Joel was employed at Shue and Voeks for 32 years. He was a contributing member of Flint Northern High School 1972 Championship team and Sam Ragnone National AAU Men’s Three Peat Championship team in 1990, 91 and 92. Joel was also Michigan Collegiate career scoring leader from 1972-1976. His favorite pastimes were riding motorcycles, playing basketball, fishing, and working on his 1953 Chevy Pickup. Mr. Joel Ragland leaves to cherish his memory: wife of 32 years, Marlene Ragland of Flint; son, Jeremiah (Gina) Ragland; 3 daughters, Amber and Alishia Ragland and Jade Alexander; grandchildren, Jordan, Aliyah, Aubrey and Isaiah Ragland, Larissa, and Emily Balladarez; mother, Jeanette Ragland; 5 sisters, Emma (Joe Mack) Smith, Joyce Ann White, Sharon (Terry) Ragland-Keys, Suzie (Charles) Brown and Barbara Gibson; 7 brothers, Willie (Robin), John (Sandra), Eugene (Connie) Jerome (Stacy) Ragland, Lee Gibson, Edward (Yolanda) and Dean (Nita) Gaines; mother-in-law, Joyce and Dale Wolfgang; 3 sisters-in law, Dawn (Scott) Wolfe, Yvette (Rick) Woodard and Leigh Ann (Derek) Skelener; brother-in-law, Brad (Karen) Wolfgang; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends including special friends Ernest Williams, Earl Jordan, Sam Ragnone, Shue and Voeks family, Mr. Otis and the riding crew and many basketball teammates and opponents through the years. Mr. Ragland was preceded in death by his mother, Julia Berry; father, Eugene Ragland; grandparents, O.D. and Elsie Berry; brothers, Charles and Dewayne Ragland; uncles, Charles and Hosie Lee Ragland, J.D. and John Berry, Jimmy and Seabon Smith; and aunt, Mae Bell Smith. The family would like to express special thanks to State Trooper Rob Mossing, and all family and friends for yours prayers, visits, condolences, thoughts, and kind words.
