YOUNG, Mrs. JoAnn - Age 65, passed away Thursday, December 16, 2010. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 23, 2010 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11 a.m. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Mrs. Young will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Wednesday. Ms. JoAnn Young was born April 17, 1945 in Holyoke, Massachusetts, the daughter of Lou Erwin and Leola Duncan. JoAnn attended the Flint Public School System all her life. She also attended Mott Community College and Ross Medical School. JoAnn retired from General Motors with 26 years of dedicated service and was a member of UAW Local #688. JoAnn’s hobbies were gardening, fishing, listening to music, reading and planning family gatherings. She confessed Christ at an early age at both Shiloh and Macedonia Missionary Baptist Churches; while growing up in the St. John Street area. JoAnn also attended New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She had a great love and concern for her neighborhood and community. JoAnn was especially proud of her grandchildren Academic and Scholastic Achievements. She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Monique Young of Flint; son, Anthony Q. Bivins of Columbus, OH; 5 grandchildren, Marquis, Chinika, Requicia, Danille and India Young, all of Flint; great grandchildren, Camariyah and Davroe Young, both of Flint; 2 brothers, Glenn (June) Bivins of Lansing, MI and Arthur Bivins of Flint; god-brother, Clarence (Naomi) Martin; nephew, Craig Bivins of Chicago, IL; great-nephew, Craig (Wendy) Bivins of Willowbrook, IL; great-niece, Tiffany Bivins of Maywood, FL; 3 cousins, Ollie B. Bivins, Jr. of Cerritos, CA, John Harpe of College Park, GA and special cousin, James Watson of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends including special friend, Rev. and Mrs. Elaine Sullivan. Ms. Young was preceded in death by her father, Lou Erwin Duncan; mother, Leola Duncan-Bivins; stepfather, Adolphus Bivins; and grandmother, Pearl Lee Harpe.
