Mrs. Joan Jackson

JACKSON, Mrs. Joan - Age 74, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church, 1851 W. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Kenneth L. Stewart, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Wednesday. Mrs. Jackson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-8:00 PM Tuesday. Mrs. Joan Jackson was born October 11, 1943 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of John D. Bolden and Margaret D. Jackson. She was a resident of Flint Township, MI. Joan was a member of House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church where she served in the Sunday School Department, Council of the Youth Ministry, Wednesday Night Bible Group, Progressive Women Ministry and as an Aide in the building of the Members Brick Wall. Joan graduated from Jordan College “Class of 1984” on the Dean’s List. She immediately began an internship at the New Paths Program becoming Program Manager until retiring in 2007. Joan has previously worked for the Flint Board of Education as a Para-Professional. She was also a Tutor with the Flint Board of Education in their Reading Department at the now closed Cook School Program. Mrs. Joan Jackson left in God’s care: 2 sons, Edgar Jr. (Annie) Willingham and Jamilah Jackson, all of Flint; grandchildren, Quanisha Burnett of California, Erica and Shannon Washington, DeAntwan Lyons, Jamilah Jackson Jr., Kamilah Jackson, Leroy and Markese Conway, Hylee Jackson and Jayden Simpson; great-grandchildren, Itoya Phifer, LeNiah and Leonard Robinson, Shaumiyah, Elijah and Alisha Washington; mother, Margaret D. Jackson; 3 sisters, Marla Neise Daniel, Gladys Jackson, all of Flint and Faith Kenny of Georgia; 7 brothers, Phillip Jackson, Joseph Jackson, Luke Jackson, Clarence (Lisa) Jackson, Rajee Barbee, Wayne Shumpert and Deever Bolden, all of Flint; a host of nieces including special nieces, Faye Billings of Flint; a host of nephews, cousins including special cousin, Loretta Copeland of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Tracy Washington, her sisters in Christ, Joyce Turner, Lois Turner, and Sandra Merriweather; special extended family, the Billings family, Sis. Broom Bolden, Wayne Shumpert, former co-workers, Theresa Shepard, Christine Mitchell and god-daughter, Crystal R. McKinzie. Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her father, John D. Bolden; grandmother, Elizabeth Graves; great-grandmother, Lois Jackson; 2 sisters, Patricia Hambrick and Jacquline Jackson; 2 brothers, Leonard and Chauncy Bolden; special friends, Jeanette Billings and Gwendolyn Sadler; and best friend since childhood, Brenda Holliday.
