Jerome Gordon

GORDON, Mr. Jerome - Age 80, departed this life, Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Avalon Hospice. Family hour 9:30 a.m. Monday, November 22, 2010 at King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church, 2220 W. Coldwater Rd., with funeral service commencing at 10 a.m., Pastor Seldon J. Williams, Jr., officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Bedford Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 9:30 a.m. Monday. Mr. Gordon will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Jerome Gordon was born December 19, 1929, in Lynchburg, Virginia. He attended Dunbar High School and graduated in 1948. Jerome served in the U.S. Air Force from January 1951 to December 1953. He loved family vacations, family gatherings, teaching his children and grandchildren practical life lessons and Barbequing. Jerome also liked working in the yard and watching sports. He began his skilled trades Pattern Maker career at Lynchburg Foundry in 1952. Jerome moved from Lynchburg, VA to Flint in 1966, where he worked at Chevrolet Gray Iron, a division of General Motors as a Pattern Maker, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Jerome accepted Christ into his life at a very early age in Lynchburg, Virginia. After moving to Michigan he joined and faithfully attended King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church up until his health failed him in 2007. Mr. Jerome Gordon leaves: loving and devoted wife, Dorothy B. Gordon; 8 Children, Jerome (Lorriane) Gordon, Jr. of Gaithersburg, MD, Victor (Elsie Renae) Gordon of Washington, DC, Lynda (Johnnie) Darby of Lynchburg, VA, Joanne (Raymond) Copeland of Madison Heights, VA, Linda (John) Bailey of Nashville, TN, Charlie E. Beverly, Jr., Dolores (John ) Edmonds, both of Flint and Patsy Beverly of Nashville, TN; 11 grandchildren, Arianne and Brittany Darby, Shelby and Camille Gordon, Geno (Eva) Pea, Raymond Copeland, Jr., Adrian (Rhonda) Copeland, Demond Beverly, Ja-Lair Flynn, Angela (Pastor Seon) Thompson and Marcie (Adrian) Beard; 7 great grandchildren, Bianka, Taylor, Amaya, Miles, Kim, Julius and Kenya; 1 great-great-child, Lexington Hudson; sisters, Margie Boyd of Philadelphia, PA and Lillie Harris of Washington, DC; brother, Randolph (Nannie) Gordon of Dobbs Ferry, NY; sister-in-law, Joyce Johnson of Lynchburg, VA; brothers-in-law, Robert Banks of Seattle, WA and Kenneth (Yolanda) Banks of Fort Washington, MD; 3 godchildren, Yuvonne Lewis, Seldon J. Williams III and Sabrine Pendeton; a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents James and Lillian Gordon; and brother, James Gordon, Jr. The family would like to give special thanks to his caregivers, Kevin Harris, Carolyn Taylor, Norma Thompson, and Donna Brown, Patricia Gaddis, Teresa Price and Avalon Hospice nurses, Kim and Sylvia.
