Mr. JC Payton

PAYTON, Mr. JC - Age 76, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015 at McLaren - Flint. Family hour 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2015 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Rodney Ellison officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10 a.m. Tuesday. Mr. Payton will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12 p.m. -8 p.m. Monday. Mr. J.C. Payton was born to the union of Mr. and Mrs. Cutnetus and Arcenia Payton on May 14, 1939 on Bay Springs, Mississippi. He graduated from Bay Springs High School in 1957 and enlisted in the United States Air Force K-9 unit. He served in Korea until his honorable discharge. J.C. relocated to Flint, MI and secured employment in May of 1962 with General Motors and after 30 years of service he retired in 1992. J.C. accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of his grandfather Innick Newell who baptized him at Nazareth Baptist Church in Bay Springs, Mississippi. After relocating to Flint, J.C. joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor H.B. Dixon where he attended faithfully for 11 years. He enjoyed serving in the ministry as a Sunday school teacher, greeter, and on the usher board now under the leadership of Pastor Rodney Ellison. J.C. also served on the usher board for the Great Lakes District Board. J.C. was a loveable, thoughtful, caring person that was always willing to assist others in need. He went above and beyond helping his friends and family and was very active in the 12 step program. Mr. J.C. Payton leaves in Gods Care to cherish his memory: 6 sisters, Nancy (W.C.) Jones of Bay Springs, MS, Delois Caesar of Joliet, IL, Lodene Jones of Knoxville, TN, Sharon Payton of Durmes, NC, Justine Payton of Atlanta, GA, and Annette Payton-Jones of Joliet, IL; 2 nephews, Willie Charles (Martha) Moffet, and James Robert all of San Francios, CA; 2 nieces, Mary Jackson of Flint, and Patricia Pearson of Houston, TX; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including special friends, Ben Jones, Mattie Michner, Lillan Bowie, and sister-in-law Joyce Payton. Mr. J.C. Payton was preceded in death by his parents: Cutnetus Payton and Arcenia Walker; brother, Aaron Payton; sister, Juanita Moffett; grandparents, Innick and Ida Newell; uncle, Will Gillum, and aunt, Octavia Gillum.
