Mr. James E. McGill

MCGILL, Mr. James E. - age 71, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Heartland Health Care Center-Briarwood. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, November 22, 2014 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 10 a.m. Saturday. Mr. McGill will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12 noon-8 p..m. Friday. Mr. James Edward McGill was born January 3, 1943 in Lumberton, North Carolina, the son of Ed and Alice McGill. He graduated from Rosen Wald High School in Fairmount, North Carolina. James moved to New York where he married his childhood sweetheart and had two children. He moved his family to Flint, Michigan, where he started working at Buick City, a division of General Motors for a short time before becoming a Truck Driver until his retirement. James was a mentor to many people, he would talk about anything from political, the law and everyday life issues. He enjoyed life to the fullest and loved watching Law & Order, westerns, war stories and the I.D. Channel. Mr. James Edward McGill leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Ruth Yvonne McGill; 2 sons, Darryl Timothy and Reginald Tyrone McGill, all of Flint; 6 grandchildren, Darryl Terrell, Talina Williams, Crissy, Reginald Tyresse, Dominique and DeAngelo McGill; 6 great-grandchildren, Tamia and Tamera Phames, Armonni, Damari, Devonte and Amilyah McGill; 5 sisters, Mary Lew Jerkin, Alice “R.K.” Stephens, Ann Mae (Mike) Johnson, Gene (Huel) Faulk and Josephine Bonnie (Chris) Jacob; 2 brothers, Lewis and John Wayne McGill; mother-in-law, Janie Mitchell; 3 sisters-in-law, Mary Mitchell, Anita and Caroline McGill; 2 brothers-in-law, Cleveland Mitchell and Reginald Stephens; a host of nieces including special niece, Sharon Stephens, nephews, other relatives and friends including special friends, Mr. & Mrs. Fred Rogers of Fairmount, NC, Mr. & Mrs. Davis Granger of Fayetteville, NC, Mary Coleman, The Stokes family of Flint, special love for his family, friends, grandchildren, daughters-in-law, Tina McGill and Monica Gist. Mr. McGill was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Alice McGill; sister, Eloise McGill-Perry; brother, Tony McGill; 2 brothers-in-law, Eddie Jenkin and Percy Mitchell and father-in-law, Proctor Mitchell. The family would like to express special thanks to the Hill family, Teresa Stephens-Locks family, thanks to everyone including the ones we didn’t mention.
