James Kirk

KIRK, Mr. James - Age 88, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, December 25, 2011 at Select Specialty. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2012 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 2 p.m. Rev. LeQuin Williams officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Kirk will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. James Kirk, World War II Veteran, was born February 12, 1923 in Selmer, TN, the son of Levi and Mary Ola Kirk. Mr. Kirk resided in McNairy County, TN until departing to serve in the Army during World War II where he was later Honorably Discharged. After serving in the military, James was united in Holy Matrimony with Leaster “Lisa” Leslie. To this union six children were born. The couple lived in Corinth, MS, before relocating to Flint, MI in 1967. James loved sharing knowledge and anything he had to help the youth and community members, never turning away anyone from his backyard garden. He never met a stranger as they say and for this he will be remembered by everyone as a kind, loving and helpful man. Mr. James Kirk leaves to cherish his memory: 3 daughters, Ruby Day (TN), Sherry Moore (MI), and Pebbles Kirk (TN); 2 sons, Dwight (Veronica) Kirk (TN), and Cortez (Kathy) Kirk (TN); 3 grandsons, Tavare Kirk (MI), Dwight Kirk Jr. (TN), and Dwayne Kirk (TN); 6 granddaughters, LeKecia Day (TN), Ashudee Kirk (TN), Lisa Kirk (MI), Whitney Kirk (TN), Khadijah Williams (MI), Tyesha Kirk (TN), 13 great grandchildren, Tavare Jr., LeTraia, Avarie, Devonta, Jaliah, Trenton, Tyler, Naije, TyJanae, KayLeon, Treasure, Javare, and DeMartrelle; a host of nieces, nephews, and family friends by whom he was loved and respected. Mr. Kirk was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Leaster Kirk; son, Johnnie Wayne Kirk; 2 grandchildren, Martel Kirk and Usheka Redditt; great granddaughter, Jayla Kirk; parents, Levi and Ola Mae Kirk; 7 brothers; and 2 sisters. The family would like to express special thanks to McClaren Hospital ICU doctors and staff.
