STEWARD, Mr. J D - Age 76, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2023 at his residence. Family hour 12:00 PM Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at St. George Bethel C.O.G.I.C., 3801 Martin L. King Ave., with funeral service commencing at 1:00 PM. Rev. James Bowie, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12:00 PM Wednesday. Mr. Steward will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Tuesday.Mr. J.D. Charles Steward Jr. a.k.a. “Snake” “Charlie” was born May 23, 1946 in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of J.D. and Earlene (Crittenden) Williams. J.D. received Christ at an early age at Triumph the Church and Kingdom of God in Christ. He later served as a Deacon at St. George Bethel Church Of God In Christ. J.D. graduated from Northern High School in 1964. He then became employed at General Motors Corporation where worked for 36 years. Upon retirement, he worked as a Groundskeeper at Kettering University for 15 years. In 1971, he met the loved of life, Cornelia (Neil) Hatter. They were married on June 26, 1976. Together they enjoyed fishing, traveling, and hosting family gatherings. In the early 1990’s, they opened a family business known as People’s One. This was a place that brought the community together to enjoy live music of many genres and good food. After Neil passed away in 2007, J.D. continued to enjoy spending time with family. He particularly enjoyed times with his grandchildren. J.D. also enjoyed fishing with his buddies, Harvey, Marve and Eddie Jones. Mr. J.D. Charles Steward Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: children, Jalan (Shavon) Steward, Alphonso Orr and Calvin (Jill) Orr; 3 sisters, Edna Harrison, Deborah (Bruce) Strong and Paulette Williams; 3 brothers, Alonzo Williams, Robert Williams and Paul (Jeanette) Williams; sister-in-law, Barbara (Tony) Hatter-Perkins; 7 brothers-in-law, Zegary Hill, James (Marian) Hatter, Henry (Barbara) Hatter, Lorenzo (Mattie), Joe Hatter, Ray Hatter an Glen (Mae) Hatter; lifelong best friend, Eddie Jones; special friend, Renitta Bowers; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Steward was preceded in death by his wife, Cornelia Hatter; children, Gala Frye and Lorenzo Orr; parents, J.D. and Earlene (Crittenden) Williams; sisters, Stella Ely and Marilyn Hill; brothers, Thaddous Williams and Roosevelt Williams. The family would like to express special thanks to McLaren-Flint, Pastor James Bowie and the St. George Bethel Church Of God In Christ family and to all who gave support in various ways.
