Mrs. Irene Louise Evans

EVANS, Mrs. Irene Louise - Age 84, passed away Monday, October 8, 2018 at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 424 Kennelworth Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Evans will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday with the family present from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM to receive friends, after which she will be taken to Jones Stuart Mortuary, Inc., 115 E. 9th St., Texarkana, Arkansas 71854, (870) 774-4133. Mrs. Irene Louise (Warner) Evans was born April 9, 1934 in Bradley, Arkansas to the late TC and Elnora (James) Warner. She graduated from Washington High School in Texarkana, AR. Irene married Cottrell Evans Sr. on April 8, 1952 and they moved to Flint, Michigan. She united with the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. L.W. Pryor and attended faithfully until her health declined. Irene later found employment at the Hurley Medical Center as a Medical Transcriber and retired after 25 years of service. She was also a Charter Member of the Happy Hurley Retiree Club. Irene loved cooking and planning large meals for her family. She also loved crocheting with co-workers, canning and quilting, which she had many beautiful ones. Irene took lots of pride in her home and loved to decorate. She loved her flowers inside and outside. Mrs. Irene Louise Evans leaves to cherish her memory: husband Cottrell Evans Sr. of Flint; 3 daughters, Jacqueline (Gregory) Chewe of Riverside, CA, Jocelyn (Elder Charles) Knox of Flushing, MI and Deborah Lawrence of Flint Twp., MI; son, Cottrell Evans Jr. (Amber) of Flint; 6 grandchildren, Brandi Chewe of Los Angeles, CA, Brittani (Richard) Collins of Riverside, CA, Keyosha (Delarr) Jason, Kiana Lawrence, Romeo and Keyonte Evans; 4 great-grandchildren, Jaidyn, Makayla, Braylyn Jason, all of Flint and Richard “RG” Collins (born on her birthday) of Riverside, CA; 2 brothers, James Warner and Ruben (Hannah) Drake, all of Texarkana, AR; 4 sisters-in-law, Doris Evans, Ocia Johnson, both of Flint, Audria Sewell and Earlene Sewell, both of Kiblah, AR; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special friends, Nina Miller, Ruby LeGardye, Victoria Poplar, Mary Brady, Vivian Petty and Lorene Holmes. Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her parents, TC Warner and Elnora (Warner) Drake; sister, Eurene LeGardye; brother, Charles Warner; sisters-in-law, Wyretha Warner and Eurlene Warner; and brother-in-law, Raydell Evans. The family would like to express special thanks to Aunt Doris Evans for all the calls and visits, and to Rev. Ronald Wilson and the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church family for every act of kindness.
